Tesla Model S Overview

The Tesla Model S is a fully electric sedan made by American automaker Tesla since 2012. It's Tesla's longest-running model and has been praised as one of the most essential electric vehicles in the industry.

Tesla began developing the Model S around 2007 under the project name "WhiteStar." Initially, Henrik Fisker—known for designing Aston Martin cars—was chosen as the lead designer, but Franz von Holzhausen later replaced him after disagreements with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. By 2008, Holzhausen finalized the exterior design of the Model S.

Tesla unveiled the Model S prototype in March 2009 in Hawthorne, California, and began production at its Fremont Factory in California in June 2012. For European markets, final assembly occurred in Tilburg, the Netherlands, between 2013 and 2021.

The Model S features a single-speed transmission. Tesla initially equipped it with an AC induction motor but switched to a permanent magnet motor in 2019 to improve efficiency. Built primarily from aluminum, the Model S shares about 30% of its components with the Model X SUV, which debuted in 2015.

Over the years, Tesla has made significant updates to the Model S, including motor, styling, and interior improvements in 2016 and 2021. In 2015, Tesla introduced Autopilot, a driver-assistance system that offers partial automation. Charging the Model S is convenient, thanks to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network of fast-charging stations.

In 2015, the Model S became the best-selling electric car worldwide. However, it has faced safety concerns, including a fire incident in 2013.

What's New For 2025?

Tesla doesn't adhere to the traditional annual update schedule followed by most automakers and frequently makes changes to its vehicles and pricing throughout the year. While details for the 2025 Model S are not yet fully available, we don't anticipate any significant updates. If any changes occur, we'll update this page with the latest information.

Tesla Model S Specifications

With electric motors on both the front and rear axles, the Model S delivers full-time all-wheel drive in every version. Acceleration ranges from impressive to truly astonishing, depending on the model. Although the Model S was once celebrated as an agile sports sedan, newer competitors now surpass it in ride quality and handling.

Drivers can choose between two steering settings—heavy or light effort—but neither provides much road feedback. The optional rectangular yoke-style steering wheel, while distinctive, feels awkward for hand-over-hand movements during parking or tight maneuvers. A traditional steering wheel, available at no extra cost, proves to be a more practical choice. Despite these quirks, the Model S excels as a daily driver, offering a smooth and comfortable ride along with a serene cabin, thanks to its whisper-quiet electric powertrain.

In terms of acceleration, the Model S with all-wheel drive and dual motors sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, producing 670 horsepower and delivering a range of 402 miles. The Model S Plaid, equipped with tri motors, achieves an astonishing 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds, boasts 1,020 horsepower, and offers an impressive range of 348 miles.

Tesla Model S Interior

With Model S prices starting at over $75,000, buyers expect a certain level of luxury. However, this is where the car shows its age. While the cabin feels nice, it doesn't match the plush interiors of competitors like the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.

The Model S’s sloped roofline cleverly conceals a rear liftgate that opens to reveal a spacious 26-cubic-foot trunk. We managed to fit eight carry-on suitcases without folding the rear seats. Inside the cabin, storage for smaller items is limited, particularly in the back seat. However, a large underfloor bin in the rear cargo area helps compensate for the lack of interior storage.

Tesla Model S Exterior

The Tesla Model S features a sleek and futuristic design that blends elegance with aerodynamics. Its minimalist front fascia, smooth lines, and hidden door handles give it a modern and sophisticated look. The LED headlights and taillights provide sharp, clean lighting, enhancing its distinctive appearance day or night.

The car's streamlined body improves efficiency and range while maintaining a commanding presence. The glass roof, stretching from front to back, adds an open, airy feel for passengers while also contributing to its stylish profile. Large 19—or 21-inch alloy wheels offer stability, performance, and a commanding road presence.

Infotainment

The Model S cabin showcases modern minimalism, with a large, centrally mounted infotainment screen managing nearly all vehicle functions. Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the high-tech design, but it does have its drawbacks. The screen's position on the dashboard can make it challenging for some drivers to reach icons, particularly those near the top-right corner.

Unlike the more affordable Model 3, the Model S features a secondary display for the gauge cluster and a small rear-seat touchpad for added convenience. However, it lacks support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which may disappoint some users.

Tesla Model S Safety Features

The Tesla Model S offers advanced driver-assistance features that enhance safety and convenience. Navigate on Autopilot provides active guidance from on-ramp to off-ramp, making highway driving smoother and more controlled. Auto Lane Change allows the car to automatically switch lanes while driving on highways, ensuring safe and efficient lane transitions.

Autopark simplifies parking by handling parallel and perpendicular parking with a single touch, while Dumb Summon lets the car retrieve itself automatically, making it easy to maneuver in tight spaces. These features, combined with Tesla's Autopilot system, improve driving ease and safety, providing a seamless and stress-free experience.

Tesla Model S Price In Pakistan In 2025

According to the updates, Tesla Model S price in Pakistan in 2025 is Rs. 2.9 crore. The price of the 2025 Tesla Model S starts at $76,630 (Rs. 2.1 Crores) and goes up to $91,630 (Rs. 2.5 Crores), depending on the trim and options.

Tesla Model S Mileage

While EVs like the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan offer decent driving range, the Tesla Model S stands out as a stronger option for long-distance travel. The standard Model S achieves 54.0 km/l in the city and 49.3 km/l on the highway, while the Plaid model delivers 47.2 km/l in the city and 43.8 km/l on the highway.

In our 75-mph (120-km/h) highway range test, the Model S Plaid managed 450 km of its claimed 560 km range.

Comparison With Competitors

The Tesla Model S competes with other luxury electric sedans, such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Porsche Taycan, and Lucid Air.

Is Tesla Model S Worth Buying?

The Tesla Model S is a luxury electric sedan that offers exceptional performance, cutting-edge technology, and an impressive driving range. Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivers up to 1020 horsepower in the Plaid model, enabling a blistering 0–60 mph time of 2.5 seconds. The Model S provides an excellent range of up to 560 km (348 miles) on a single charge, making it a strong option for long-distance travel.

Inside, the Model S features a modern minimalist cabin with a massive 17-inch touchscreen, a secondary digital display for the driver, and an available rear-seat touchpad. Although it lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it offers Tesla's intuitive infotainment system with gaming capabilities and streaming options.

If you're seeking a high-performance EV with long-range, advanced technology, and a premium driving experience, the Tesla Model S is definitely worth considering.
