BMW G 310 GS Overview

The BMW G 310 GS Adventure was launched globally in 2016 as a compact, adventure-touring motorcycle targeting riders seeking a lightweight yet capable machine for city commuting and light off-road exploration.

Developed by BMW Motorrad in collaboration with TVS Motor Company, the G 310 GS made its debut as an entry-level option within BMW's prestigious GS lineup. Despite its adventurous DNA and the revered GS badge, the model struggled to maintain a strong foothold in Pakistan's niche premium motorcycle market. Although it saw limited parallel imports and caught attention among enthusiasts, its high price tag and restricted service availability contributed to its gradual market fade.

Since 2021, it has been Euro 5 compliant. It has an unswitchable dual-channel anti-lock braking system, Idle Speed Control, electronic throttle control, an assist-and-slipper clutch, adjustable levers, an LED headlight, and indicators.

BMW G 310 GS Specs

The BMW G 310 GS features a 313cc, water-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine with a double overhead camshaft and four valves. The engine delivers 34 horsepower at 9,500 rpm and 20 lbs-ft of torque at 7,500 rpm. This unit is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh transmission and utilizes a wet multi-disc clutch. It has a reverse inclined engine, and the bike employs electronic fuel injection (EFI) for efficient fuel management. It complies with Euro 4 emission standards in earlier models and was later updated to Euro 5 globally.

Dimensionally, the G 310 GS measures 2,075 mm long, stands 1,230 mm tall excluding mirrors, and spans 880 mm in width with hand levers. It has a wheelbase of 1,420 mm and a fully fueled,ready-to-ride weight of 169.5 kg. The bike supports a maximum permissible weight of 345 kg, with a maximum load capacity of 170 kg. It offers a fuel tank capacity of 11 liters.

For suspension, it features a 41 mm upside-down inverted fork and a rear aluminum swingarm with a directly hinged central spring strut. Braking duties are handled by an 11.8-inch front disc with a four-piston fixed caliper and a 9.5-inch rear disc with a single-piston floating caliper. BMW Motorrad ABS is offered as standard and is switchable for off-road use.

BMW G 310 GS Design and Features

The BMW G 310 GS's design language strongly echoes the larger GS models, with a distinctive upright stance, high front fender, and short, raised rear. Its fly line gives it the unmistakable GS silhouette, enhanced by color options like Racing Red, Sport, and Cosmic Black. All variants feature a black seat and matching black frame, giving the bike a cohesive and rugged appearance.

The G 310 GS offers a relatively relaxed riding posture, making it suitable for short city commutes and longer journeys. Its ergonomics are rider-friendly, with well-positioned handlebars, footpegs, and controls accessible to riders of various sizes. The 32.8-inch seat height provides a commanding view while being approachable for average-height riders.

Its features include a clear windscreen, a one-piece seat, a luggage grid, an LED headlight, a tail light, and indicators. The multifunctional display includes a speedometer, tachometer, gear position indicator, fuel range, fuel consumption, and average speed metrics. Additionally, safety and convenience are enhanced by the inclusion of a side stand with ignition cut-out and a one-key system for ignition, fuel tank, and seat access.

BMW G 310 GS Fuel Average

The BMW G 310 GS delivers a real-world fuel average of around 40 kilometers per liter under mixed riding conditions, which is quite efficient for a 300cc-class adventure motorcycle. The fuel economy may dip slightly in urban traffic, while highway cruising often allows for better mileage. Its 11-liter fuel tank offers decent touring range for its class.

Maintenance Tips for BMW G 310 GS

  • Change engine oil and oil filter every 3,000-4,000 km to maintain engine health.

  • Regularly clean and lubricate the chain every 500 km or after rainy rides.

  • Check and adjust tire pressure weekly to avoid handling issues.

  • Inspect brake pads and fluid levels monthly, especially before long rides.

  • Use BMW-recommended coolant and check levels every 2,000 km.

  • Ensure the air filter is cleaned or replaced every 5,000-7,000 km.

  • Keep the battery charged if the bike remains unused for long periods.

  • Use original BMW Motorrad engine oil (ADVANTEC 15W-50) for optimal performance.

BMW G 310 GS Competitors

During its active years, the BMW G 310 GS faced competition from various adventure and dual-sport motorcycles in international and local markets. Pakistan's main rivals included the Benelli TRK 251, Suzuki Inazuma 250 (for touring), and the Honda CB 250F in terms of engine class and segment relevance. While these competitors might not have matched the G 310 GS in premium features or the GS branding heritage, they offered better parts availability, lower maintenance costs, and official dealership support, factors that heavily influenced buyer decisions in Pakistan.

Other notable competitors internationally included the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411, KTM 390 Adventure, and Kawasaki Versys-X 300. However, many of these models were unavailable or offered in limited numbers in Pakistan, primarily through individual importers.

Is BMW G 310 GS Worth Buying?

As of 2025, the BMW G 310 GS can be considered a viable second-hand option for enthusiasts seeking a premium adventure bike with a recognizable brand and advanced engineering. However, buyers should weigh the pros and cons carefully. While the bike offers a smooth ride, excellent road presence, and versatile performance for both tarmac and trails, it suffers from high maintenance costs and limited spare parts availability in Pakistan.

That said, if sourced from a reliable importer and well-maintained, the G 310 GS can be a solid addition to any rider's garage, particularly for those who value brand pedigree and adventure capability in a compact package. It's ideal for weekend rides, scenic tours, and light off-roading, but not the most cost-effective choice for daily commutes or low-maintenance needs.
