History of Sazgar BAIC

Beijing Automotive Industry Company (BAIC) is the third largest automotive group in China. The company produces a range of vehicles, from passenger to commercial vehicles, and sells around 3.5 million cars every year. BAIC cars are coming to Pakistan in partnership with Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (SEWL), the largest rickshaw-maker in Pakistan.

BAIC is one of the many international automobile manufacturers coming to Pakistan under the Automotive Development Policy 2016-2020. As per the ADP, BAIC received the greenfield status in 2018 and set up a car assembly plant in Pakistan in association with Sazgar Engineering. Sazgar showcased three affordable BAIC vehicles at the PAPS 2020 Auto Show in Lahore. BAIC BJ40 Plus, BAIC X25, and BAIC D20, all three cars were coming to Pakistan in 2020. However, as soon as COVID-19 hit Pakistan, the business activities were shut down and BAIC Pakistan fell completely silent. Now, if Sazgar BAIC wants to avail the incentives given in the auto policy, the company will have to launch the cars by the end of fiscal year 2021 in June.

Performance and Technology in BAIC Vehicles

All BAIC cars, teased by Sazgar BAIC, make quite an impression in terms of looks and performance. 

BAIC BJ40 Plus

BAIC BJ40 Plus will be an off-road SUV with two engine options: a 2.0-liter diesel engine and a 2.0-liter petrol engine. The company plans to release the petrol version first, while diesel will hit the market in the second phase of the launch. Some feature highlights include fog lamps, an 11-inch infotainment floating screen, parking brakes, 3-view reverse camera, and cruise control. 

BAIC Senova X25

BAIC Senova X25 will be a crossover SUV with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. The car’s powertrain comes with two transmission options, 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission. Both variants will be available in the Pakistani market. X25 will offer some interesting features like a 9-inch infotainment screen, power windows, digital climate control, parking assistance, and fog lights. 

BAIC Senova D20

Sazgar BAIC proposed to offer the D20 in two body types, a 5-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan. There are two engine options in this car, a 1.3-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. It’s not sure yet if the company will offer both options in the local market or just one. LED headlights, 14-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, 6-inch touch screen display, and rear-view camera are some of the attention calling features.

BAIC Cars in Pakistan

BAIC cars are almost here. The company will launch all four vehicles, the BJ40 Plus off-road SUV, the X25 crossover SUV, the D20 hatchback, and the D20 sedan, in the first quarter of 2021. BAIC Pakistan will distribute these cars through Sazgar dealerships across the country.
