Ford Bronco Overview

Ford is an American multinational company headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, United States. Its founder was Henry, who moved to Ford in 1903, where it became one of the best automobile companies. Ford Motor Company sold vehicles under its name and luxury cars under the Lincoln brand. The company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

Overview

The Ford Bronco, introduced in 1965, is a compact SUV renowned for its off-road capabilities and durability. Initially built on a 92-inch wheelbase, it featured a boxy design, optional V8 engines, and versatile body styles, including wagon, roadster, and half-cab pickup. It competed directly with vehicles like the Jeep CJ-5 and later the Jeep Wrangler.

Key highlights

  • Generations 1-5 (1965-1996):

    • Evolved from a compact off-roader to a full-size SUV.
    • Offered various trims, including Ranger and Eddie Bauer, with increasing luxury and safety features like ABS and airbags.
    • Known for removable hardtops, rugged chassis shared with Ford's F-Series trucks, and powerful V8 engines.
  • Sixth Generation (2021-Present):

    • Combines classic Bronco styling with modern tech.
    • Offers 2.3L and 2.7L EcoBoost engines, two- and four-door convertible options, and unique frameless, removable doors for an open-air experience.
    • Competes with the Jeep Wrangler and shares its platform with the Ford Ranger.

The Bronco is celebrated for its adaptability, off-road prowess, and heritage-inspired design, making it a standout in the mid-size SUV category.

What's new For 2025?

For 2025, a classic, retro-inspired free wheezing trim has been added to the Bronco. This style is based on entry-level Big Bend trim, which also comprises oil-style multi-color stripes along the sides of its body. It is inspired by the 1970s Bronco design.

Furthermore, this model offers the Sasquatch off-roading package, which includes features like high-clearance fender flares, a raised suspension, mud terrain tyres, and upgraded Bilstein shock absorbers.

Ford Bronco Specs

If you have heard about Bronco offering V8 engines, then it's not true. It is available in two engine options: a standard turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 hp (horsepower) and an optional twin-turbo 2.7l V6 engine that produces 330 hp (horsepower). Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. However, a seven-speed manual is exclusively available with a four-cylinder.

Every Bronco model has all-wheel drive with manual adjustment. Its independent front suspension is more advanced than the Jeep Wrangler's solid front axle, providing a smooth and reliable driving experience.

There are several trims of Bronco, including Big Bend, Black Diamonds, Outer Bank, Badlands, Wildtrack, and Everglades. Bronco's Badlands trim comprises the same 2.7L Turbo EcoBoost® Engine with 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque ( 562 Nm). Badlands comprises seven driving models: Normal, ECO, Rain / Slippery, Mud / Ruts, Sand, Rock-Crawl, and Baja.

The Outer Bank consists of a 2.3L Turbo EcoBoost® Engine with 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of Torque (442 Nm). It comprises six driving models: Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, Sand/Snow, and Mud/Ruts.

If we talk about acceleration, its twin-turbo V6 engine delivers the fastest. The Wildtrack trim with the 10-speed automatic transmission can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds. The Everglades trim of Bronco, which consisted of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the same 10-speed automatic transmission, took 7.1 seconds to reach 60 mph. However, the longer time is due to the smaller, less powerful four-cylinder engine compared to the V6.

Ford Bronco Interior

The interior of the Bronco offers the same open-air experience as the Jeep Wrangler. Its cabin introduced the dashboard cabin rack for securing smartphones and GoPro cameras.

Car owners can also opt for leather seat options to give their Bronco a stylish look. In higher trims of the Bronco, large areas have been covered with plastic, which may seem cheap. This rugged SUV comprises rubberized flooring and marine-grade vinyl upholstery as options.

Furthermore, both two-door and four-door models offer ample space. The two-door version comfortably accommodates two adults in the back. The four-door adds a middle seat and extra cargo space, providing more than 50 percent additional storage compared to the two-door.

Ford Bronco Exterior

Other significant features included 35-inch mud terrain tyres, beadlock-capable wheels, electronic locking front and rear differentials, and a sway-bar disconnect feature. Its sterling wheel is precise and responsive, with better off-road capabilities than the Jeep Wrangler. With its larger tyres and well-tuned suspension system, there occurs a brake dive.

Bronco comprises body-onframe construction, which means both body and frame are separate. This makes it a suitable vehicle for off-road driving.

The lighting comprises Bi-LED headlights for both high and low beams. It provides visibility while driving, especially at night.

Both the front and rear have tow hooks (except the Outer Banks trim, which has only one rear hook). These hooks are practical for off-road adventures, allowing drivers to pull or be pulled out of tough spots like mud or sand.

Its frameless doors are easily removable. In addition, the four-door version of Bronco has enough room to store all the doors after they are removed. The side mirrors are attached to the base of the windshield rather than to the doors.

The MIC (Molded-In-Color) removable roof allows for flexible configurations in Ford Bronco. It enhances the overall outdoor experience. There are two main storage options, i.e., Option A and Option B. The first option removes and stores the two front panels plus two doors. The second option is to remove and store all four doors if you want a fully open cabin.

Infotainment

Ford's latest Sync 4 in-dash software powers a 12.0-inch touchscreen positioned at the center of the Bronco's dashboard. This system supports over-the-air updates and can connect wirelessly to both the cloud and the user's smartphone. It includes modern features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. Additionally, the system offers optional upgrades, such as built-in navigation and a premium B&O stereo for enhanced audio quality.

It also comprises Voice-Activated Navigation and provides easy-to-follow directions to reduce distractions while driving.

Charging Ports: Up to six USB charging ports, a 110V power outlet, and two 12V outlets.

Safety And Comfort Features

The FordPass app extends convenience by allowing you to remotely check fuel levels, lock/unlock, and even start the vehicle. It also provides real-time traffic updates to make drives smoother.

The Bronco's safety features are exceptional. It comprises six airbags, a 360-degree camera for visibility, and a post-collision alert system to assist after an accident. Hill Start Assist and an electronic parking brake add control on slopes.

Furthermore, the MyKey® feature enables customizable settings for different drivers. An AdvanceTrac® and Rollover Stability Control prevent rollovers on challenging terrain and offer additional security.

Bronco offers advanced driver assistance features with Ford Ford Co-Pilot 360. It includes ACC, which adjusts the car's speed. Other significant features include Evasive Steering Assist, Lane-Keeping System, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, and BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert.

Ford Bronco competitors include the Ford F-150 Truck , Toyota 4Runner, and Land Rover Defender. Each brings off-road solid capabilities and unique engine choices.
