The Mercedes CLS class is based on the platform of the Mercedes E-Class, it was designed to offer the atheistically appealing looks of a 2-door coupe but also offers the everyday practicality of a 4-door saloon. It is available in 5 models CLS 350, CLS 500, CLS55 AMG, CLS63 AMG and CLS 350 CDI. Production of the Mercedes CLS 1st Generation lasted for 6 years, the Mercedes CLS was available to purchase in the years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and the year 2010. The price of the 1st Generation Mercedes CLS was not competitive when compared to other cars in the same class.
The exterior of the 1st Generation Mercedes CLS features a unique design language. The front end houses sleek narrow upswept headlights, a trapezium chrome grille and standard circular fog lights. The slanting rear end houses triangular side swept taillights, dual sport exhaust tips and a chrome trim piece running the length of the trunk. The Higher end CLS 63 AMG variant features a more aggressive front spoiler with larger intakes, the rear end houses a larger rear bumper with a rear diffuser and a sports exhaust system. All other variants of the Mercedes CLS feature identical styling in every aspect. The overall exterior of the 1st Generation Mercedes CLS features a very distinctive design language that can stand out amongst other cars in its competition.
The interior of the 1st Generation Mercedes CLS compromises of black and beige premium trim pieces. The front and rear seats are covered in a choice of black, cream, beige or ivory leather. Standard features include automatic climate control, cruise control, power heated door mirrors, 10-way power front heated seats with memory function, keyless entry, multifunction steering wheel, satellite navigation, 12-speaker stereo audio system, traction control and stability control. Options and features on the higher end CLS 500 and CLS 63 AMG models include power open and close trunk, moon roof, adaptive cruise control, headlight cleaning system, rear automatic window blind, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and leather/wood steering wheel. The overall interior of the 2005 Mercedes CLS features a good amount of interior space in the front but a lack of interior space in the rear due to the rear coupe like sloping roof line, it also offers a decent level of comfort and interior refinement.
