The 2016 Audi Q7 e-tron Quattro plug-in Hybrid which was earlier uncovered in the Detroit show this year will ensure that the environment stays green and clean. The vehicle is ready to hit the dealership in the early months of next year so that the customers can enjoy the luxury ride.
The German beauty is going to have a 3.0 litre V6 TDI diesel engine in Europe and 2.0 litre four cylinder TFSI engine in North America and Asia. Along with the engine the beauty has tied a knot with 94 kilowatt electric motor and 17.3 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.
The technical boss of Audi revealed in an interview recently that the diesel variant of full size Q7 will be available with optional inductive charging when it launches in Europe. Audi’s current generation of inductive charging features an automatic mechanism which raises the primary coil with a few millimeters of the secondary coil (placed underside of the vehicle), improving power efficiency and therefore reduces charging times. The current generation has the primary coil placed in the ground making a distance of many centimeters and eventually less effective than the inductive charging of Audi.
‘It will be available in the Q7 e-tron as an option and the convenient part is that whenever the car is parked in your garage, it’s effectively plugged in. And we’re not far from the time when the car will park itself, so it’s perfectly aligned with the induction plate,” he said. “Our system will start with 3.6 KW of charging and it will go to 7.2 KW soon, and there are ideas to go higher.”
The inductive charging option will cost around € 1,000 per car. The technical boss also gave a hint to the followers of the auto world that Audi is working on driverless cars.
