Exclusive: Hyundai to Reintroduce 6th Gen Elantra in Pakistan
Hyundai is preparing to reintroduce the 6th-generation Elantra with a 2.0-liter petrol engine in Pakistan, according to an insider.
The 6th-generation Elantra was previously sold in the Pakistani market with the 2.0-liter ICE. However, on October 25, 2024, Hyundai introduced the 7th-generation Elantra with a hybrid powertrain and discontinued the earlier 6th-generation model locally.
However, the company is now preparing to bring back the older 6th-gen model in the lineup for sale.
Production Plan
Per the insider, Hyundai will not rely on leftover kits of the 6th generation. New units are planned to be assembled locally at the plant.
The insider also stated that the 6th generation continues to be sold in other international markets, and this availability has influenced Hyundai’s decision to reintroduce it locally in Pakistan as well.
Competing Models in the Market
Sources also indicate that the decision is to fill the price gap in Pakistan’s sedan segment.
The 6th-generation Elantra is expected to compete directly with the Toyota Corolla and Honda City Aspire, both strong performers in the conventional petrol category.
Parallel Strategy with Hybrid
Hyundai will maintain two parallel offerings in the country:
-
The 7th-generation Elantra hybrid caters to buyers seeking a hybrid and upper-budget sedan option.
-
The 6th-generation Elantra ICE will target the same category of customers who want to buy a conventional petrol-powered sedan like the Toyota Corolla or Honda City Aspire.
