With Independence Day falling on a long weekend, thousands are expected to head to the beautiful Murree hills.
To keep the celebrations smooth and safe, the Murree City Traffic Police have rolled out a special traffic management plan.If that’s you, here’s a quick and important heads-up!
Keeping Traffic Flowing
More than 200 traffic officers will be on duty to guide visitors. The Expressway and RMK GT Road will remain open for vehicles from Rawalpindi and Islamabad, while some busy streets will operate as one-way only to prevent gridlock:
- View Forth Road
- Bank Road
- Hall Road
- Kuldana Road
- Imtiaz Shaheed Road
Mall Road will be closed to all vehicles, creating a safe, walkable zone for pedestrians to enjoy the festivities.
Parking Rules
Illegal parking will be strictly prohibited.
- No-parking zones: Within 200 meters of major intersections such as GPO Chowk, Jhika Gali Chowk, Kuldana Chowk, and Sunny Bank Chowk.
- GPO Chowk will be entirely parking-free.
- Visitors must use designated parking areas to avoid congestion.
Heavy Vehicle Restrictions
Buses and other heavy vehicles will not be allowed into Murree from 6:00 AM to 2:00 AM. They will be stopped at Murree Brewery, Bansra Gali, and Lower Topa. Traffic heading to Azad Kashmir will be directed to use the Expressway.
Chief Traffic Officer Waseem Akhtar has urged visitors to follow traffic rules, pay attention to signboards, and cooperate with wardens to ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence Day. For assistance, contact the Traffic Control Room at 051-9269200.
With cooperation from everyone, this Independence Day in Murree can be both festive and frustration-free.
