Where Pakistan’s economic drive is in shambles, the incumbent government is striving hard to secure aid and loan programs to avert default and improve Pakistan’s debt repayment capacity over the next several months; the privileged ones in the country seem not among the affectees – registering luxury rides.
In a recent development, Punjab Excise and Taxation Department marked a new record registering the region’s most expensive high-end SUV. Media reports have revealed that the authority has registered the top variant of the latest Range Rover in Rs. 9,110,656. One can buy a compact SUV from the local market at this price. However, the total worth of this SUV is Rs. 172,687,000.
The total mentioned above is comprised of a range of taxes and fees, encompassing withholding tax, transfer fee, registration fee, number plate fee, automated registration card fee, income tax, capital value tax, motor vehicles tax, and registration number fee. The identity owner of the car is kept in disguise in the face of privacy considerations.
The Previous Records
Moreover, this is not the first occurrence of a substantial tax payment for vehicle registration in the area. Earlier in Sept 2021, the authority registered a Mercedes AMG G63 in Rs53 lacs.
The reports further stated that the price of this car was Rs13-Crore, 19-lacs, making it the most expensive registered car in Punjab at that time. The allotted number of the car was AEG-063. Furthermore, the car was registered in the name of First Habib Modaraba on a bank lease. The car was in Diamond White color with a 4,000cc engine.
Before the registration of the Mercedes AMG G63, the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder was the most expensive registered car in Punjab. The price of the car was Rs11-crore. Meanwhile, the cost of its registration was over Rs. 4.5 million.
