Good luck to sale these cars, hybrid can make sales, but in a country were there is no charging station, why saling full EV ?
And EV are always more expensive than ICE.
Hyundai just launch the Santa Fe as Hybrid, to launch an ICE like Palisade would be understandable
Why don’t we learn from the mistakes of rich countries ??? just copying rich countries…
The problem is, as usual, the auto assemblers are only interested in making limited and overpriced sales to the rich who are following the trendy names and what they think are the trendy brands and “are the best”. As usual they are backing the wrong horse.
These EVs are very expensive for providing effectively a little over 400KM in range. That is paying a lot for so little.
Range anxiety due to a lacking Charging network is a serious problem in Pakistan and taking these expensive toys on long routes is next to impossible. Why not consider EREVs. EREVs are EVs with combustion engines which are NOT connected to the wheels and act only as generators for the electric systems.
ERVEs standard battery sizes are around 50kWh or less. That falls within our current, very arbitrary, only put in there to please our old auto assemblers, battery tax cutoff limit. I.e. any EV with a battery over 50kWh in Pakistan is taxed at a very high rate. So, the EREVs have this advantage that they will qualify for the max tax incentive, keeping the prices down. These pure EVs cost an arm and a leg because of the increased taxes on their bigger battery sizes.
Some note-worthy examples of EREVs can be:
1 – BYD U8 SUV: Pure EV Driving range = 180KM. Driving range with range extender = 1,000 KM
This SUV puts others to shame with what it can do. Tank turns, self-parking and it can drive while floating on water.

2 – Changan Qiyuan A07 EREV Sedan: Pure EV Driving range = 200KM. Driving range with range extender = 1200KM

3 – Dongfeng E 007 (200pro EREV version) Sedan = Pure EV driving range = 200KM. Driving with range extender = 1200KM
4 – Dongfeng M-Hero 917 EREV = Pure EV driving range = 200KM. Driving range with range extender = 1000KM.

5 – Li Auto L9 EREV: Pure EV range = 200KM. Driving with range extender = 1300KM
If you really want to give good options that bring the latest to our country and something which many more consumers will potentially be able to buy and keeps the range anxiety at bay and keeping in mind the very present problem of charging in our nation, EREVs are the best way forward.
Look at it this way. Toyota did bring the hybrid to the market. But it was BYD from China which, in 2009, introduced the world to the first Plug-in Hybrid. EREVs are the next step beyond Hybrids and Plug-in Hybrids and one step below pure EVs. It is the best option for countries like ours. Currently no such options really exist from the legacy brands and they are killing themselves by only bad mouthing EVs (like Akio toyoda) and completely ignoring the EREVs. Their loss.
EREVs are the way to go for us. Only, will they ever come to Pakistan? And, does our already very outdated EV policy even recognize EREVs🤔
So far EV purchases have been very limited due overpriced and charging stations.. Until it is not brought under control, IONiQs would be FAILED as IONiQ 1 …… MG is also struggling and others too.
