Toyota has officially revealed the all-new 2026 Hilux, marking the biggest update yet for its iconic pickup. For the first time, the Toyota Hilux 2026 will be available as a fully electric (BEV), a 48V Hybrid, and a hydrogen fuel cell model coming in 2028.

With this launch, Toyota takes the Hilux nameplate into a new era — combining the legendary toughness of its pickup with the power of electrification.

Hilux Enters the Electric Era

Toyota’s multipath strategy means every type of driver gets something that fits their world:

  • Hilux BEV – a fully electric version arriving in December 2025
  • Hilux Hybrid 48V – the mainstay for European markets
  • Diesel and Petrol models – continuing in select regions
  • Hydrogen Fuel Cell Hilux – officially coming in 2028

That’s four different powertrains for one of the most trusted pickups in the world,  a clear sign that Hilux is charging ahead into the future.

Tougher Design, Smarter Feel

The new Hilux takes design cues from the Land Cruiser, combining rugged looks with modern details. It’s built on a “Tough and Agile” theme — muscular yet sleek.

Highlights include:

  • Slim LED headlights with bold TOYOTA lettering
  • Grille-free front for the BEV version
  • Redesigned steps for more effortless loading
  • One body style: Double Cab only

Inside, you’ll find a fully digital cabin featuring a 12.3-inch driver display and a matching touchscreen. The layout is cleaner, classier, and much more high-tech than before.

The Electric Hilux: Power Meets Purpose

The Hilux BEV is powered by a 59.2 kWh battery with dual motors for all-wheel drive.

  • Range: Around 240 km (WLTP)
  • Power: 205 Nm (front) + 268 Nm (rear)
  • Payload: 715 kg
  • Towing: 1,600 kg

Toyota has engineered it for the same toughness Hilux is known for — including body-on-frame construction, off-road torque control, and battery protection for harsh conditions. Yes, it can still wade through water just like the diesel version.

Hybrid 48V: Smarter, Stronger, More Efficient

Coming in spring 2026, the Hybrid 48V Hilux blends a 2.8L turbo-diesel engine with a 48V motor. The system improves fuel efficiency and acceleration, while keeping Hilux’s trademark strength:

  • Carries up to 1 ton
  • Tows up to 3.5 tons
  • Handles 700 mm wading depth

It’s built to deliver the same reliability — just quieter, smoother, and greener.

Tech and Safety, the Toyota Way

Toyota has packed the new Hilux with smarter tech and safety features than ever before.
Key features include:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control and Proactive Driving Assist
  • Emergency Stop System
  • Blind Spot Monitor and Safe Exit Assist
  • Driver Monitoring Camera
  • Over-the-Air Updates

Owners can even connect their Hilux to the MyToyota app to check battery levels, track trips, and manage up to 10 vehicles for fleet users.

The Hydrogen Hilux Is Coming Too

Toyota has confirmed a hydrogen-powered Hilux is already in development, set to debut in 2028. It’ll join Toyota’s clean-energy push, offering zero-emission performance without sacrificing power.

 The Takeaway

The Hilux is evolving — and it’s not just about going electric.

With electric, hybrid, diesel, and even hydrogen options, Toyota’s most iconic pickup is ready for every road, every market, and every future.
