There is something strange happening in the car market of Pakistan as a large number of fake notifications have emerged in the last couple of weeks. The confusion started with Honda’s price reduction notification, followed by a similar statement by Suzuki, and then Kia became its target. The companies categorically denied these fake notifications and urged the consumers to check the official social media pages and websites for authentic information. And now this trend has reached the launch of new cars/variants in Pakistan.

New Variant of Honda Civic?

Yesterday, a notification started spreading on social media, mentioning the launch of a new variant of the Honda Civic, i.e., the Honda Civic 1.5l EXi, with a price tag of Rs. 7,749,000. Per this notification, “Honda aims to provide new ways to excite their customers. Hence, we are proud to announce a new variant of our existing Civic lineup, which is sure to excite many of you.”

The document also mentioned the specs and features of the car’s exterior and interior. And lastly, it claimed that the bookings are now open, with deliveries starting as early as January 2024.

But is it Real?

To confirm the authenticity of the notification, we contacted the Honda Atlas official and he denied any such announcement. “Honda Civic is a top sedan of Pakistan and we would never launch a variant through a notification,” he clarified, adding that the company follows international trend in case of Civic and there are nothing happening in this regard globally.

Then we called the company’s dealerships, and they rejected the notification, stating that they hadn’t received any update or information from Honda Atlas about this new variant. “In the current economic situation where parts are unavailable, no company will launch a new variant,” one dealership official told us.

In short, the notification is fake, and Honda has no immediate plan to launch a new variant of any of its models. So, if you were planning to buy this 1.5L EXi Civic, well, you can’t because it doesn’t exist, and it’s pretty hard to purchase non-existent things.

There is no doubt that Japanese cars are the preferred cars to buy in the Pakistani market, but their astronomical prices have left them out of the hands of many willing consumers. This leads to rumor mills getting generated to increase the foot traffic at the dealerships in order to try woo the customers and try to sell them financing options.
