Is The New Honda City Worth 30 Lacs?
Honda Atlas has finally taken the covers off of the new Honda City. Last night, the company hosted a launch event at Royal Palm Lahore and revealed the prices of five City variants. The ex-factory prices range between Rs. 2,599,000 and Rs. 3,174,000. Now, the big question is: is the new City over-priced? To answer this, let’s recap the events leading up to the launch day.
Round 1: Disappointment of old generation City
For more than 12 years, Pakistanis dealt with the 5th generation City that came to Pakistan in 2009. They have been dreaming about the new generation City for years. When the company hinted at the launch of a new generation City, everyone got butterflies thinking the 7th generation City, launched internationally in 2019, will come to Pakistan. To everyone’s surprise, the so-called latest generation teased by Honda Atlas was the old 6th generation, not 7th.
Round 2: Secrecy of price and specs
People were still getting over their disappointment, trying to make peace with the 6th generation City when Honda Atlas opened the bookings for the car. No price reveal, no idea about the specs and features, just the 6th generation City available for bookings at Rs. 1 million for the two lower-end variants and Rs. 1.2 million for the three upper-end variants. Still, 12,000 buyers blindly booked the car without knowing the actual price or even getting a look at the car. Bravo!
The Final Straw: Over the top price
After months of melodrama, Honda Atlas Pakistan officially launched the 6th generation City last night. We finally know the big price secret. If we compare the prices of the new Honda City with its competitors Toyota Yaris, Proton Saga, and Changan Alsvin, the car is undoubtedly over-priced.
Although Honda did not play cool with the launch of new City, 6th generation is still a big jump from the old 5th generation. There are so many new features in this B-segment sedan that we have never had in the old one. Long story short, new City is an overpriced car, but it’s still going to sell like a hot-cake. And, scene!
This article is a good attempt to keep the community engaged, other than that I can see no reason why author would compare Honda’s price with low tier brands because even elsewhere prices of Japanese cars are higher than Chinese.
As for question as to City selling like hot cake, what then do you expect author? Not everyone has money to throw away by buying a Chinese car, which by the way has not even showed its true colours yet, just for sake of breaking hold of Toyota on the market. In my opinion, only a risk taker is going to go for a freshly wrapped Chinese box in a bright wrapper.
With the launch of the 6th generation, I see a flood of articles on it. Is Pak Wheels the official spokesperson of Honda in Pakistan or a neutral, consumer centric body. Doesn’t seem to auger well with the name and credibility this website has attained , that it blatantly promotes the big 2 I.e., Honda and Toyota while under playing the other players. As far as the specs are concerned , the too variant doesn’t even come close to what Alswin is offering in a much lower price I.e., a difference of almost .6 million. Be fair, and impartial.
@Rizwan
Honda is no more part of the big 3, is Kia today, with Suzuki and Toyota.
And i’am agree with the sister’s article in the end.
And one last thing alsvin got the poorer warranty in sub compact segment for Pakistan market is 3 years or 60 000 km warranty, all other player got higher warranty, and warranty is amirror of car durability and reliability.
I think it’s beginning the price will be increased shortly because we have a history.
