PAMA – Local Car Production Increased By 37%
Traditionally, in the middle of every month, we have kept you updated on the sales performance of local car makers, providing you a snapshot of how well cars are moving off the lots. But this only tells part of the story. This time brought a detailed look at the car production statistics, which offer a deeper insight into the health of the industry, manufacturing efficiency, supply chain stability, and future sales potential.
Production data reveals much more than sales figures alone—it reflects the broader trends in manufacturing, demand, and the overall capacity of the automotive sector to meet consumer needs.
In this blog, we will analyze and compare the cumulative production figures, provided by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), from the fiscal years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 for key vehicle segments, including passenger cars, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, buses, trucks, jeeps, pickups, and tractors.
Car Production
Passenger car production in Pakistan witnessed a substantial decline in 2023-2024, with a 37% decrease in cumulative production compared to 2022-2023, dropping from 87,820 units to 55,678 units. However, in 2024-2025, there was a strong recovery with a 37% increase in production, reaching 76,189 units. This indicates a positive trend for the passenger car market, as manufacturers ramp up production to meet the growing demand.
Two & Three Wheelers
The two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments are among the most vital contributors to the automotive industry in Pakistan. In 2023-2024, two-wheeler production stood at 825,690 units, reflecting a 9% decline from the previous year. However, this was offset by a remarkable recovery in 2024-2025, with production surging by 25%, reaching a total of 1,058,264 units.
When combined with the three-wheelers production, which saw a 70% growth in 2024-2025 (from 17,814 units in 2023-2024 to 30,229 units), the overall production in this category has seen a substantial rise. This growth highlights the continued demand for affordable, efficient, and versatile transportation options in Pakistan.
Buses Production
The production of buses in Pakistan saw a mixed performance. In 2023-2024, bus production faced a decline of 51%, dropping to 297 units from 606 units in 2022-2023. However, a strong recovery is expected in 2024-2025, with bus production increasing by 84%, reaching 546 units.
Trucks Production
Truck production also saw a positive trend in 2024-2025. After a 44% decline in 2023-2024, where only 1,501 units were produced, the truck segment experienced a surge of 88% in 2024-2025 reaching 2,822 units.
Pickups/SUVs/Jeep Production
Pickups, SUVs, and jeeps saw a notable recovery between 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. Production in 2023-2024 declined by 45%, from 26,439 units in 2022-2023 to just 14,542 units.
However, in 2024-2025, there was a remarkable 80% increase, pushing the cumulative production to 26,147 units. This growth reflects the rising preference for larger, more versatile vehicles like SUVs and pickups among Pakistani consumers.
