President Erdogan Becomes the First Owner Of Turkey’s Domestic EV
In a historic moment, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was handed the keys to Türkiye’s first-ever domestically produced electric vehicle on Monday, marking a significant milestone for the country’s automotive industry.
The eagerly anticipated Togg EV model T10X was officially delivered to the president in a special ceremony held at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, attended by the first lady, Emine Erdoğan. The EV is a fully electric, C-segment SUV. It has been launched in a bright red color called “Anadolu,” which reflects Anatolian lands’ sincerity and passion.
On this occasion, President Erdogan stated, “Today, we are witnessing together the realization of the 60-year dream of our nation.”
Turkish automaker Togg will be delivering its second electric car, the T10X, to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday for official use. This vehicle is painted in the Gemlik color, named after the blue waters of the district that houses the Togg campus, shaded by olive trees.
This comes after the first batch of T10Xs sold out with over 177,400 preorders received in just 21 days, prompting the carmaker to increase production to 20,000 units from the initially planned 12,000. Togg held a digital draw to select buyers for the first batch, with deliveries expected to start soon.
President Erdogan also stated, “Togg was born as a symbol of the technological development, economic development, and global reputation of our country. Starting today, we will start seeing Togg on the roads.”
The second car will be delivered to the president of Azerbaijani, Erdogan’s counterpart, Ilham Aliyev. The prototype of the Togg EV was first unveiled back in December 2019. At that time, President Erdogan had given a list of advanced orders, one of which was for the president of Azerbaijan.
This EV is the fruit of President Erdogan’s efforts, who had been pushing to manufacture Turkey’s first national automobile.
