Unique UD150: The ‘Inspired’ Successor to the YBR?

236

As we all know, Yamaha’s exit from Pakistan has disappointed many YBR fans, and existing owners are worried about a possible drop in resale value.

On the other side of the picture, competing motorcycle brands seem quite pleased; after all, one less rival in the market is always good news for a competitor.

Normally, when a brand leaves, what other brands do? Fill the shelves, raise or drop prices, or increase marketing, right?

But there’s one motorcycle brand, Unique, and if you’re not familiar, they’re pretty well-known in the 70cc category. And this time, they decided to take things to a whole different level. They didn’t just seize the opportunity; they scooped up everything that came with it.

Yes, Unique has launched a new motorcycle that seems to be heavily influenced by the YBR. In fact, from the front, especially the headlight, you’d struggle to tell whether you’re looking at a Unique or a Yamaha. They’ve named this new model the UD150.

If you take a closer look, you can really see how far the “inspiration” goes in the front profile. The headlight and even the engine design have that same YBR vibe; anyone who’s seen a YBR even once will pick up on it right away.

However, once you move to the side and rear profile, Unique steps away from imitation and showcases some genuinely fresh design things.

To be fair, the bike does offer some solid positives.

For starters, it’s a 150cc motorcycle. On top of that, it comes with features you’d normally expect from bikes like the CB150F or the GR150, both of which are touching the Rs 5 lac mark. You get a fuel gauge, dipper, self-start, disc brakes, and, surprisingly, even a digital meter instead of the usual analog one.

Lastly, the motorcycle was showcased at PAPS in Karachi. Pricing, you ask? Officially, the price is unavailable, but people have posted ads on PakWheels with pricing around 3.6-3.8 lacs for 2025 models, maybe brand new.

In 3.6-3.8 lacs, with all these bells and whistles and a 150cc engine, it sounds a great deal unless you care too much about resale, because this motorcycle will not have a good resale like Suzuki’s and Honda’s 150cc models.

Let us know what you think of this all-new Unique UD150, and whether you would buy it or a used CB150F or GR150 at that price?
