MG Motor Pakistan took the local car market by storm as it launched a crossover SUV, MG HS, at a reasonable price with great features. Over the last few months, the company has claimed to sell thousands of cars in Pakistan. And to celebrate, its top administration has cut cakes in different cities, including Faisalabad, Sialkot and Islamabad. It is pertinent to mention that MG Pakistan has been selling CBU units only as it has not started local assembly/manufacturing yet. However, it seems that it is now facing issues in delivering cars on time. And people who have booked the vehicle are not happy about it.
In a recent video circulating on social media, angry customers can be seen arguing with MG Motor Lounge in Lahore. The buyers are demanding their MG vehicles as they have paid the total amount. One of the customers said that MG promised delivery in March, but he have not received the car.
“MG took the complete payment from us, and now there is no delivery,” the customers said. The angry consumers demand immediate car delivery.

In the second video, a crowd can be seen at the MG dealership with their purchase orders. However, there are no cars to be delivered.
As per our sources, MG Motors has overbooked the cars. Taking money, in many cases, even with full payment upfront and then not able to deliver, will only make things worse. We know it’s a worldwide issue with the pandemic, but the companies must be transparent with the buyer and don’t hold on to their money with excuses.
Currently, there is NO clarity. There is also news that CBU booking is closed, but the dealers are still taking bookings of MG HS, and neither dealer nor buyer knows what he will be getting.. a CBU, a CKD and when. This ambiguity causes more confusion among the consumers. The sources further said that the company will now deliver CKD units, but in this car, the customer will get its car at least after one whole year, if MG starts production today.
Furthermore, there are reports that the MG cars are being sold on ‘ON Money’ at different dealerships across the country. As per reports, the MG buyers are angry over it because they have booked the vehicle with full payment but can’t get it; rather, they are available on the premium at different dealerships.
When Cars Will Be Delivered?
As per our sources, 1910 MG vehicles are parked at Karachi port and they will be delivered to the customers in May 2021. Furthermore, the sources have stated that assessed value of HS has been increased from $11,000 to $13,000, which means duty increase of 3300,000 approximately.
Expected Price Increase?
Due to the hike in import duty, MG will increase their car prices in June 2021 and December 2021, the sources claimed. So, it means there are two price increase are at the horizon.
Response by MG:
Last month, MG Motors issued a statement saying that the car deliveries are late because of the consequences of the global COVID-19 pandemic: supply chain constraints and global transportation crisis.
Furthermore, MG Lounge dealership said that is has told its consumers that their delivery for April is also late for a month. Again, the pandemic has been blamed for the delay. The dealership further said that they are in constant touch with their customers and a large number of cars have been delivered. “No one has the authority to make a video in someone’s premises without permission, ” the dealership said.
However, when contacted directly, MG Pakistan official has not provided a response to PakWheels.
