Which Company Is Helping Honda In EV Transformation?
The race to electric vehicle transformation is just getting started, and there’s a new automaker in town with a solid plan. It’s none other than the second-largest carmaker in Japan, Honda. The company’s new CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, has a plan chalked out to go fully electric and end the production of petrol and diesel cars by 2040. A bold statement given by CEO Mibe at a news conference in Tokyo. Here’s how Honda is going to make it happen.
Roadmap of Honda’s EV Transformation
This was Mibe’s first press conference as the new CEO of Honda, and he made quite an impression with his game plan for the company.
As per Mibe’s partial roadmap, Honda will electrify 40% of its vehicle lineup, in the North American and Chinese markets, by 2030. The percentage will increase to 80% by 2035 and 100% by 2040, which means, in two decades, the company will power its vehicles only with electric batteries and hydrogen fuel cells.
The company has a different vision for its home country Japan where it is planning to make its vehicle lineup 80% hybrid and 20% electric by 2030.
“What we presented today is very challenging. We cannot yet clearly explain the basis for achieving them, but I believe clarifying the goals is a first major step,” said Mibe to the media.
The new Honda CEO said that one key factor for meeting the targets is improved in battery technology. He also revealed that the company would take advantage of its existing alliance with General Motors (GM) to accelerate its shift to electric and hydrogen technology in the US. As of now, Honda and GM are jointly developing two EVs and plan to introduce them in North America in the next three years, by 2024.
This is definitely a great action plan by the new Honda CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, and a sign of profound leadership. Let’s see how he shapes the future of this company.
None of the Honda Cars in Pakistan is fully electric. If the company pulls this electric transformation thing off in the next two decades, hopefully we’ll see some Honda EVs in Pakistan as well.
