A gorgeous Porsche Classic 911 Targa set a new world record this month by getting sold for a whopping 1.1 million dollars.

It is no surprise to see a vintage Porsche being auctioned for a huge amount of money, but this one is a bit special. The 1972 911 S 2.4 Targa Porsche Classic was revealed in January with the Porsche Classic Targa GTS. At the time, there was no plan for the car to get sold. But recently, it was revealed that the Targa got auctioned off for $1,149,000. The news was broken by auctioneer RM Sotheby’s. Being sold at this price has set a “new world record for the Porsche Targa model”.

The car was redone by Porsche itself. Originally, the base car of the 911 T 2.4 Targa was in poor condition and also had some parts missing. Porsche took the artistic liberty of upgrading the engine and chassis to the S variant. This resulted in a car with 187bhp and mechanical fuel injection. Additionally, the whole exterior and interior of the car were also redone and improved. This process of upgrading the car took two whole years, from beginning to end. It seems like an extensive process, but it was worth the money, after all.

Porsche’s classic restoration boss Uwe Makrutzki stated at the time of the car’s unveiling:

“It’s always a very emotional moment for me when I drive something this unique. After all, I will have followed the process restoring this vehicle to its former glory for months before we get to this point. The thrill of getting out on the road never wears off.”

Although it’s not uncommon for classic Porsches to be sold for huge sums of money, setting a new world record is pretty impressive. What are your thoughts on this? Share in the comments section below!
