Today we’re back with an owner’s review of the Toyota Fortuner Legender, where we get to know the new features Toyota has added and the owner’s experience with it so far. The Legender was launched in the initial months of 2022, when Toyota revamped the car’s looks, making it a lot more aggressive than the standard Fortuner.

Along with cosmetic changes, many new features were introduced in it. It comes with a 1 GD-FTV 2.8 liter diesel engine producing 201hp and around 500Nm of torque; this engine is configured with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine is also offered in the Sigma variant and the Hilux Revo.

Purchase Decision

The owner really liked the Fortuner and had been planning to get one for a long time. Moreover, there were no other new car options in this price bracket, and Fortuner was the only full-fledged SUV on the market.

When Toyota facelifted the Fortuner in 2021, the owner booked the Sigma variant, but when he learned that the Legender was about to be launched, he cancelled his previous booking and booked the Legender as he wanted to buy the top-of-the-line variant. He bought the Legender at the invoice of Rs 10.8 million.

Salient Features

The Legender features newly styled headlights and bumpers along with new 18-inch alloy rims. Moreover, all the chrome points of the car are blacked out, giving it a sporty look. Coming to the interior, it features a new red and black theme with perforated leather electric seats and a black roof liner.

Features include ambient lighting, front and back parking sensors, a new instrument cluster, 3 driving modes, dual-zone climate control, rear AC vents, paddle shifters, cruise control, multi-function steering, etc. Safety features include 3 airbags, ABS brakes, traction control, etc.

Drive

The 2.8-liter diesel has enhanced its power, producing 201hp compared to 174hp before, while torque has jumped up to 500-newton meters from 450. This power increase makes the Legender very zippy and fun to drive. As per the owner, he loves the engine’s torque, and acceleration is amazing for a car of this size. Overall the drive is very smooth and refined despite being a diesel.

Comfort

There is a popular opinion of the Fortuner’s seats being very hard and uncomfortable but the Legender contradicts that to an extent. According to the owner, the new perforated seats are relatively more comfortable than the standard Fortuner improving long travel comfort. Other than that, the cabin insulation is good, and the engine is very refined, with no signs of the cliched diesel engine growling inside the cabin.

Infotainment System

The pre-facelift Fortuner’s infotainment system is known to look very dated and unresponsive, but this new infotainment screen is very efficient. Bluetooth call quality is good, according to the owner, and he doesn’t find it laggy.

Fuel Average

As per the owner, the fuel average is good; within the city, he gets around 10 km/l on normal driving, and on the highway, he gets 10 to 11 km/l even on pushing the car at higher speeds.

This article should prove as a slap over face of commentators on C.S.P. who claimed that Fortuner Legender is no more than a change in headlights.
