Transforming Tacoma in 20 Days – Featuring Federal Garage

0 3,016

Believe it or not, we transformed the Tundra 2nd generation to 3rd generation in just 20 days!

Rebuilding, fabrication, and installation of project cars take years and years in transformation worldwide, but PakWheels with cooperation and dedication of Federal Garage did it in 20 days for its Jhal Magsi Desert Rally. It clearly states that Pakistan has talent that the world needs to see.

Here, in today’s blog, we will walk you through the steps we took in modifying the Toyota Tundra.

Overview

We brought a Toyota Tundra last year from Peshawar and decided to transform it from a 2nd generation 4L engine to 3rd generation 5.7L V8 engine for the then-upcoming Jhal Magsi Rally. It was a hectic job that required dedication and expertise. We contacted Federal Garage for the execution of this project, and their team did a splendid job. The best thing was that they were super quick. Now let’s look at the components that were rebuilt or fixed separately.

Tacoma Modifications

At first, the 3rd generation Tacoma setup was imported, and various components were re-fabricated or adjusted as per the need. The frame was separated and strengthened; a fabrication process was conducted to replace the rear shocks where the wheelbase was increased to adjust these long-travel shocks.

As the bigger engine, a 5.7L V8, had to be placed in a 4L engine bay, a resizing of the engine space was needed. The foundation needed to be strengthened as it was going to run in a car rally that brought extreme beatings. For that, a new suspension setup from the Dirt King and FOX suspension were deployed along with Camber spindles. However, the fender, bonnet, and bedsides were replaced with carbon fiber sheets for weight reduction.

In addition, roll cages were rebuilt to ensure safety and decrease the risk of body roll during the rally. 3rd generation lights were installed, and battery space was redone. Moreover, Godrej beadlock tires were installed to improve road handling and maneuvering.

Lastly, the Tacoma was wrapped to increase the aggressiveness and boost up the overall sporty look for the rally.

Project Cost

Transformation projects require huge investments, and this one was an example of that. The engine setup, including the cluster panel, cost around Rs. 5 to 6 million. The suspension setup costs another Rs. 6 to 7 million, whereas the wheel, rim, and tires cost Rs. 1.2 to 1.5 million.

PakWheels strongly believes that Pakistan has a strong and dedicated workforce that can compete with any talented team worldwide; it is just that we need more exposure and daylight. To read about more exciting stuff, visit our official website.
