2020 Toyota Yaris Cross Launched

Yaris Cross is a good idea to provide a lofty SUV-like ride to the hatchback enthusiasts. Globally there is a trend that people are preferring crossover and SUVs over sedans and hatchbacks. Toyota played it well to launch a 2020 Yaris Cross in Thailand. This vehicle has already been launched in Europe back in 2018. Auto enthusiasts are calling the new 2020 Toyota Yaris Cross a Yaris which has been jacked up in height and a Yaris on stilts.

Almost all of the automobile manufacturers are converting their hatchbacks into crossovers given the increasing demand for crossovers worldwide. Three variants are being offered in Thailand. These are Entry, Mid, and High.

Exterior and Interior

Yaris Cross has both front and rear faux skid plates and chunky fenders on both sides. These fenders give a rugged and tough look and appeal to the Yaris Cross. Toyota is also offering a two-tone color for the exterior in the Yaris Cross. However, this is an optional feature. Ground clearance is 190mm which is 30mm more than a normal Yaris hatchback. This is done using new springs and dampers. It also comes with glossy-black 15-inch alloy rims. The blacked-out roof gives the Yaris Cross a sporty and rugged look. Moreover, there are chrome door handles and a smart entry system.

Front and back cameras are also included as standard with recording functionality. There are seven exterior colors in which you can buy the Yaris Cross. The side mirrors are blacked-out in the Yaris Cross. It also comes with projector headlamps with the automatic on-off system. There are Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and LED fog lamps integrated into the bumper.

The interior of the Yaris Cross is similar to that of the Yaris hatchback. The interior has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and 7 airbags. There are steering-mounted controls and a single-tone interior color scheme. The electric power steering comes covered in leather to give a premium feel to the vehicle. There are sport-style black leather seats.

It also comes equipped with a 4.2-inch TFT driving information display. Rear seats can be folded in the 60:40 ratio and these are adjustable. The luggage storage area comes with a cover. The driver-side electronic window comes with a clamping protection mechanism. Storage spaces are also ample in the car and the glovebox integrated into the dashboard is also very sizeable.

Engine and Performance

The Yaris Cross is equipped with a 1.2-liter 3NR-FXE engine capable of producing 109 Nm of torque and 92hp of output. This engine is paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The Yaris Cross is a front-wheel-drive vehicle that cannot go for hardcore offroad trails. The engine is compatible with ecocar II rules and has a variable valve system which is electrically controlled.
