Giving a good news for the future of Electric Vehicles (EV) in Pakistan, a China-based Gauss Auto Group has announced to set up an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Pakistan. The company will set up the plant in Karachi port’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on almost 1,000 acres of land.
As per a press statement from the company, it would be a joint venture with AKD Group and Holdings. The statement read that Gauss Auto focuses on the innovation and development of automobiles and the integration of resources. “The company is registered in Silicon Valley, US while its operations are in Shanghai, China,” the company said.
During a visit to the Board of Investment (BoI), CEO Gauss Auto Group and CEO AKD Group Holding met and discussed the related issues with Federal Minister BoI Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Secretary BoI Fareena Mazhar. Both groups also expressed their intentions to export their locally-assembled EVs from Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the secretary BoI informed the delegation about Pakistan’s new EV policy, which benefits both new and existing manufacturers. The organization also delivered a comprehensive presentation of their production plant and apprised BoI leadership of the variants of the vehicles they are already producing.
The BoI also informed the delegation about the liberal investment regime, which equally treats foreign and local investors. The organization also encouraged Gauss Auto Group to invest in the auto industry of Pakistan and extended maximum support.
EV Plant of MG Pakistan
Related to this news, Last month, MG Pakistan’s representative Javed Afridi announced MG’s EV plant is under construction. Sharing the video of a site, Afridi wrote: “Pakistan’s first giga NEV/EV plant under construction.”
However, he doesn’t share the location of the site. In the video, you can see a vast land where heavy machinery is working.
Last year, the Board of Investment (BOI) decided to facilitate the entry of China’s largest automobile manufacturer in Pakistan and the first private special economic zone (SEZ) in Raiwand, Punjab. The permission was granted to MG JW Automobile Pakistan Private Limited in JW-SEZ Raiwand as a “zone enterprise.”
