Toyota Revealed New Generation Vellfire & Alphard
If you go beyond the massive grilles, you might spot a duo of minivans. Toyota has introduced the latest iteration of the Alphard, as well as the Vellfire. These models come after the luxurious Lexus LM, which shares the same TNGA-K platform. As part of their dedication to “mobility for all,” Toyota has introduced a unique Welcab ‘accessibility’ variant in their new lineup.
The fourth-generation Alphard and Vellfire models proudly display Toyota’s ‘Forceful x IMPACT LUXURY’ exterior design concept. This design theme draws inspiration from the powerful stance of a charging bull. To capture this essence, the designers have skillfully integrated dynamic irregularities that span from the front to the rear of the vehicles, creating a visually striking appearance.
Dimension
The minivans have dimensions of 4995 mm (196.6 in) in length and share a spacious wheelbase of 3000 mm (118.1 in). Both models have a width of 1850 mm (72.8 in). The height, on the other hand, varies depending on the specific model and trim level, either measuring 1935 mm (76.2 in) or 1945 mm (76.5 in).
Exterior
Coming to the exterior, it is evident from the images that the Toyota minivans possess prominent front grilles, although with distinctive elements that set them apart from one another. The Alphard showcases a segmented finish on its grille, while the Vellfire displays a grille adorned with horizontal slats.
Additionally, the vehicles are equipped with slim headlamps, each featuring a distinct LED daytime running lamp design. The Alphard boasts two rows of segmented DRLs, whereas the Vellfire incorporates a simpler bar located below the main headlight.
Both the Alphard and Vellfire showcase a groundbreaking feature known as ‘Universal Steps’ on their sliding doors. This innovative addition allows for enhanced accessibility when entering or exiting the vehicle.
As the side doors open, a step automatically extends to a height of approximately 220 mm above the ground, making it easier for passengers to step in or out. This clever design significantly reduces the initial step’s height, ensuring a more convenient and comfortable experience.
Moreover, the vehicles are equipped with long assist grips strategically positioned on the C-pillars and both sides of the ceiling. These assist grips are designed to accommodate individuals of varying sizes, further enhancing the ease of entry and exit for passengers.
Interior
Inside the cabin, there is remarkable similarity between the Alphard and Vellfire models. Both vehicles feature a large, freestanding central touchscreen, contributing to a minimalist layout. Additionally, they are equipped with a digital instrument cluster.
Toyota has made improvements to the seat design, enhancing occupant comfort and creating an additional 5mm of space in the middle row and 10mm of space in the third row. For added versatility, both MPVs offer the option of individual second-row chairs with various adjustments, along with a rising ottoman available in the Executive Lounge package.
The Alphard takes it a step further by incorporating individual removable tablets in the central armrests for each seat. These tablets allow passengers to control various in-car functions, providing added convenience and personalization options.
The Alphard and Vellfire offer seating for up to six individuals in a 2+2+2 configuration, featuring second-row captain’s chairs. Notably, there is now an additional 5 mm (0.2 in) of space between the first two rows and an extra 10 mm (0.4 in) between the second and third rows.
The Alphard and Vellfire MPVs also introduce a new overhead console, which incorporates ambient lighting and controls for the air conditioning system, power windows, and rear air conditioning vents. To enhance convenience, both models now come standard with an electrically operated footstep. This footstep is located on both rear doors and extends outward when the doors are opened, facilitating easier entry and exit from the vehicle.
These MPVs also offer unique comfort features such as individual operation of the sunshade for the moon roof, allowing left and right rear passengers to adjust it independently. Additionally, they include pull-down sunshades on the windows, a first for MPVs, providing occupants with increased privacy and protection from sunlight.
Powertrain
When it comes to powertrains, both the Alphard and Vellfire MPVs offer options for petrol and hybrid engines, introducing some notable firsts. The Vellfire, for the first time, is available with a 2.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
Furthermore, both models now offer two-wheel drive hybrid powertrains, alongside the E-Four all-wheel drive layout. The hybrid powertrain consists of a familiar 2.5-liter petrol engine paired with either a single or dual electric motors, with one of the motors driving the rear wheels.
The Alphard, on the other hand, is also offered with a 2.5-liter petrol engine without the hybrid powertrain option. Toyota has further confirmed that both MPVs will be equipped with plug-in hybrid powertrains in the future, providing an even more environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient alternative.
Production of the new Alphard and Vellfire models will take place at Toyota’s Inabe plant in Japan, with a combined target of producing 8,500 units per month. The Alphard is expected to constitute approximately 70% of the total production volume, while the Vellfire will account for the remaining 30%.
Pricing
The pricing for the Alphard ranges from 5,400,000 yen to 8,720,000 yen, which is approximately $38,000 to $61,400. On the other hand, the Vellfire is priced between 6,550,000 yen and 8,920,000 yen, equivalent to approximately $46,100 to $62,800. These prices reflect the varying trim levels and options available for each model.
