With the aim of introducing up to 15 electric models worldwide in the next four years, the Korean car giant, Kia intends to broaden its range of electric vehicles (EV) by the end of 2027. The automaker’s objective is to encompass various vehicle segments with its EV lineup, spanning from a city-centric EV1 to a full-sized EV9 SUV.

David Hilbert, Kia‘s European marketing chief, clarified that the company seeks to cater to a wide range of customer preferences by offering a diverse selection of EVs. The European market will be the primary target for the smaller models.

Kia’s Plan

Furthermore, alongside pure EVs, Kia plans to provide models with multiple powertrain options, such as electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants of the Niro in specific markets. This strategy is akin to Toyota’s approach, as they too have plans to incorporate solid-state batteries with a range of up to 1,450 kilometers by 2030.

The upcoming Kia EV5 is scheduled to make its debut in China later this year, followed by its introduction in Europe, and potentially arriving in the US in early 2014. In Europe, Kia will concentrate on smaller vehicles, including a subcompact crossover that might be named EV3, which will compete with the Peugeot e-2008.

In addition to their previous plans, Kia also intends to develop an EV1 that will directly compete with the Volkswagen ID.2. This particular model will share its platform with the next-generation Hyundai i10, showcasing the collaborative efforts between the two brands.

Despite the growing demand for SUVs, Kia is determined to continue offering hatchbacks and sedans alongside their SUV lineup. The company has set a goal of generating over 50% of its global sales from electrified vehicles by 2030. They aim to achieve this target by selling approximately 4.3 million units, representing a 34% increase compared to their current sales volumes.
