After a gap of more than 44 years, Mercedes has finally unveiled a brand new S-Class Cabriolet. With the roof up, you wouldn’t be able to distinguish it from the regular Mercedes S-Class Coupe, other than the obvious fabric folding roof but once you take the roof down, it transforms the car into a luxurious, elegant and sleek cruiser whose profile looks quite like a high speed yacht.
At launch, the S-Class Cabriolet will be available in S550 and S63 spec models. The S550 will come with a 4.7 liter twin turbo V8 paired with a 9G-TRONC 9-speed automatic gearbox offering 447bhp. Whereas the S63 will come equipped with a 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8 paired to a 7-speed AMG Speedshift transmission producing 577bhp which can send the S-Class Cabriolet from 0-60mph(100km/h) in just 3.9 seconds. Both models will come as standard with AIRMATIC semi-active air suspension and will be electronically limited to 155mph (249km/h).
Both Cabriolets will also feature fully pyrotechnic roll over protection system and the fabric roofs that can be raised or lowered in a matter of just 20 seconds, even at the vehicle speed of up to 37mph(60km/h). Both will also feature Mercedes’ famous AirScarf neck heater that blows warm air down the back of your neck to keep you warm when driving with the top down on cold days.
All this comes together to make what Mercedes describes as “the world’s most comfortable convertible”. Pricing for the S550 starts at US$ $122,475 (PKR 12.75 Million) while the S63 AMG will retail for around $164,075 (PKR 17.08 Million).
