Today we’re back with the owner’s review of Hassan Choudary’s 2021 Toyota Fortuner. In this video, Hassan shares his experience of owning a Fortuner. This generation of the Fortuner debuted in Pakistan in 2016 and since then, it has been upgraded with several facelifts and variants. This particular car is a pre-facelift 2.7 V. It comes with a 2TR; 2.7 liter petrol engine producing 163 p and 245 nm of torque. This engine is configured with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Purchase Decision

The owner initially considered pickup trucks including the Isuzu Dmax and Toyota Revo but their common issue of uncomfortable seating put him off as he wanted a comfortable car. He then increased his budget by 2 million and went for the Fortuner which for him was very suitable. Now coming to the variants, he didn’t want the stripped off entry level G nor did he want a diesel hence he decided to get this petrol variant. He bought the car at an invoice of PKR 8,408,000.

Acceleration

The 2TR engine in the Fortuner is known to be slightly sluggish and the owner feels the same as well. According to him, he sometimes wants to accelerate the car but the engine does not respond sufficiently. The power to weight ratio is not ideal unlike the 1GD engine in the sigma which is very powerful.

Fuel Average

The owner has had a very bad experience with the fuel average. According to him, he gets around 5 to 6 km/l within city and that too with a normal foot. If driven on an open route, it may go up by 1 or 2 km/l but that’s pretty much it.as per him, this may be because of Karachi’s heavy traffic which ruins the fuel average.

Features

As per the owner, this is a perfect car if you live in Karachi. The ground clearance is good hence you don’t worry about speed breakers and potholes. It has all the basic features including electric seats, digital climate control, cruise control, rear AC, and the infotainment screen is also good which the owner uses frequently. Overall, it is a complete package if you don’t want excessive tech.

Key Issues

The owner gets really annoyed by the 3rd row seats which continuously make squeaking noises. According to him, when the seats are folded up, their squeaking noise becomes really irritating and it’s something which should be improved. Other than that, he feels that the car is pretty basic compared to what newer companies are offering including ADAS features, panoramic roofs and what not.

Maintenance

The owner maintains this Fortuner from Toyota and initially they would trick him into availing several services which were very costly. However, he now gets the oil and filters replaced in 15,000 rupees every 5,000 kilometers.
