From the past few years, import taxes and duties on CBU cars have soared to historic levels, with customs duties ranging from 1.3 million PKR (under 800cc) to shockingly 7.5 million PKR (above 1600cc.) In that case, buying a new imported car might not be a value-for-money deal in 2024, and you might consider going with locally-made vehicles. So here we’ve brought you the best locally assembled CKD cars under 1000cc and below.
Suzuki Alto
Suzuki Alto is also one of the most sold hatchback cars in Pakistan, with sales of 66,427 units in 2022. PSMC stated this as their record sales figures for a single model.
The reason for its popularity is its excellent fuel average. Its small 658 cc R04 engine, lightweight 600 Kg body, and thin tires can offer an economy of 20-25 Km/l.
In Pakistan, the base variant of Alto, VX, starts at 2.3 million PKR and goes up to 3.0 million PKR for the VXL AGS (top-of-the-line variant).
We know 2.3 million is still not affordable, but unfortunately, due to inflation, this is the cheapest brand-new car from a renowned manufacturer that you can buy in Pakistan.

Suzuki Swift
Swift is the top-of-the-line model in Suzuki’s lineup. Its base variant starts from 4.4 million PKR, making it the most expensive brand locally assembled Suzuki car you can buy right now.
Just like the price, it does offer some quality features that no other brand offers in the same price range. Some of its features include smart entry, rear wipers, spoiler, 4.2” TFT information display, 9” display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, cruise control, and 4 SRS airbags, making it the best value-for-money car in 4.4 million. However, if you’re one of those who expects a sedan in four million, then Swift might not be a good choice for you.

Differences in Variants
The GLX CVT and GL CVT offer additional features, including ISOFIX anchors, fog lights, and climate control. The GLX CVT additionally offers a 7-speed gearbox, power boot, 6 airbags and rear speakers .
Suzuki WagonR
WagonR is another popular PSMC hatchback cars model in Pakistan. It has a 998cc DOHC, 12-valve engine with a 5-speed manual and auto transmission on top-of-the-line variants. Of course, being a Suzuki car, you can expect a good average from this model as well. With the normal foot, WagonR is capable of offering 14-18 Km/l of fuel on average.
Unlike the Alto, the Wagon R won’t give you a feeling of underpower, thanks to its impressive body-to-weight ratio. However, due to thin tires and low body weight, the car might feel unstable above 100 Km/H. Still, WagonR is one of the most popular middle-class family hatchback cars.

Kia Picanto
The Picanto was the first hatchback from an international brand in Pakistan to compete with Pak Suzuki’s budget cars, specifically the WagonR.
Kia offers two simple variants, MT and AT. The only difference between them is the transmission; MT is a manual transmission, and AT is an automatic transmission. The Pakistani Picanto comes with a Euro 2 compliant 998cc MPI inline 3-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 68 HP of power and 98 Nm of torque.
All two variants offer a touch-screen panel, rear-view camera, dual SRS airbags, ISOFIX support, central locking, ABS, keyless entry, and fog lamps.
Additionally, Picanto’s drive quality is much better than WagonR’s; even at high speeds, it doesn’t wobble like WagonR. However, the company claims the fuel average is 12 Km/l, but multiple owners claim that its average is no more than 9-10 Km/l.

Suzuki Cultus
Cultus is another popular PSMC model. It’s an upgraded variant of the WagonR with better drive quality, powered mirrors, fog lights, and a more spacious interior.
Both WagonR and Cultus offer the identical DOHC 12 valves 998CC engine that produces 67 HP @ 6000 RPM. Excluding the base VXR variant, all the other variants offer ABS, alloy rims, body-colored mirrors, door handles, a central console armrest, and two SRS airbags.

United Bravo
United Bravo is a one-of-a-kind 800cc hatchback on our CKD cars list. It was launched in 2018 in competition with Suzuki’s most iconic and #1 selling car in Pakistan, Mehran. It is a low-budget car with some good features, including power steering, all four power windows, AC, wooden trims, and a digital speedometer with an RPM meter.
However, the car didn’t go as successfully as expected because of its subpar build quality. Still, if you have a low budget, need features, and a brand-new car is your priority, then Bravo can be a considerable choice.

United Alpha
It’s the same company that brought Bravo, one of the cheapest 800cc hatchback cars in Pakistan. Just like Bravo, Apha is also one the most affordable 1,000cc hatchback cars in Pakistan. It comes with a 998cc DOHC 16-valve engine with a 5-speed manual transmission. The car was launched in competition with WagonR, but of course, who can beat Suzuki’s sales figures? Alpha does offer some impressive features like power steering, AC, infotainment, spacious interior, and better-built quality than the Bravo model. However, United couldn’t manage to make it a hit. Still, with a 1.8 million PKR budget, it’s a good zero-meter car to consider.

Prince Pearl
Pearl was brought to Pakistan by DFSK and Prince in 2020 in the Suzuki Alto competition. However, in terms of sales, Pearl isn’t even close to Alto. On the other hand, Alto offers these features in 3.2 million PKR (AGS.) Therefore, Pearl sounds like a good option, right? But, again, built quality was the biggest off-thing for its successful career. If you still focus on features, have a low budget, and want a brand-new car, you can add this hatchback in your list.
