Hybrid cars are an attractive proposition for Pakistanis right now as fuel prices continue to rise at record highs. The technology is, although not new, popularised in family vehicles, especially crossovers and sedans. Enter the Haval, China’s best-selling crossover manufacturer, especially Jolion, which now gets hybrid technology and is badged with blue-accented headlights like Toyota’s HEVs.

On the other hand, we’ve H6, a model upgrade from Jolion HEV that was launched in November 2022. Both cars have over 2.6 million difference. So how’s the 2.6 million cheaper Haval’s HEV? Here’s the head-to-head difference between.

Here’s the current latest pricing:

  • Haval H6 HEV: 1.18 Crores PKR
  • Haval Jolion HEV: 9.29 Million PKR

Haval H6 HEV and Haval Jolion HEV Overview

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Pakistan’s automotive industry, it’s that if you want to be at the top in the sales figures, then you need an electrified powertrain with a combination of petrol engines, i.e., a hybrid vehicle.

One thing we’ve noticed about Haval is that they’re fast learners and adaptive. That’s why they brought the H6 HEV to Pakistan as a CKD production. Just two years later, the all-new Jolion HEV has touched the Pakistani market, beating big brands like Toyota and MG.

Haval H6 HEV and Haval Jolion HEV Verdict

There is no doubt that the hybrid system in the H6 really serves well, making it by far the best car in its class, both in terms of power, looks, built quality, and driving quality. It’s truly a checkmate for HEV crossovers from other big-name brands.

On the other hand, it’s easy to see why Jolion is making a great impact on the sales charts worldwide, i.e., in Australia, China and the USA. It has bridged the gap between luxury and affordable prices. Where Japanese, German and Korean brands used to charge a hefty price tag of over 30-50 million, Jolion has brought it down to less than 10 million. It’s nice to drive with solid and flagship-grade interior quality.

Exterior Looks

Exterior looks are all subjective, something that appeals to us, but may not be the case for the person next to you. However, our team of Pakwheels preferred the bold Jolion, especially from the side and front profile. We love how they took inspiration from Toyota’s hybrid style of adding blue accents to the headlights.

Jolion and H6 are both built on GWM’s ‘L.E.M.O.N PLATFORM,’ 1$ billion R&D chassis for lightweight, power, multi-purpose, better efficiency, and high protection.

Both have chrome mesh grilles with big HAVAL badges on the front. The headlights almost look identical from a distance. Jolion’s DRL extends right down to the bumper in a boomerang shape, which looks really cool.

The Jolion’s back includes a large rear spoiler and bumper diffuser with chrome accents. The half-C-shaped lava lights look nice as well. However, the extra big badging of HAVAL on the trunk might not appeal to some people.

The H6 uses a simple crossover design but looks nice. A lava light that connects both left and right side lights and spreads across the trunk. Complemented by a rear spoiler equipped with a wiper, it offers practicality alongside style. The sleek matte black bumper skirt enhances the vehicle’s aggressive aesthetic, completing its back profile presence.

Interior

In a line, both come with very well-designed, solid luxury cabins. Both are checkmates for other Japanese and Korean brands that offer CKD crossovers in the same price range (you know whom we’re talking about).

Both have double-story center consoles with over 26 storage compartments. The steel grille on the H6 tweeters also gives it a premium touch, as you’re sitting in a 40 million German motorvehicle.

USB counts are similar on both cars, as are the driver aids and features. For 2.6 million extra, H6 provides more space and softer surfacing. Its front seats are also heated, and the overall cabin just gives a greater sense of quality than you get in Jolion.

In short, the Jolion prioritizes looks and aesthetics, while the H6 prioritizes functionality. However, the interiors of both are really nice and luxurious, comparable to the luxury of German cars.

Drive Quality

After watching the majority of the international expert reviews on Jolion HEV and H6 HEV, we’ve made the conclusion. Jolion is slightly ahead in terms of handling and H6 in terms of driving quality.

The positioning of the cruise control stick on the H6 just sits below the indicator stick, giving easy access to turn on via your left-hand ring finger.

Both cars have a dedicated hybrid powertrain, and the transition from hybrid to motor engine is really nice without any jerk or noticeable lag. Both have the ability to combine EV, parallel, and series hybrid driving.

Just like Toyota’s HEV technology, the H6 and Jolion HEVs can also keep battery charges constant by recovering power through regenerative braking and using the conventional gasoline engine. Jolion’s power output is 190 HP and 375 Nm of torque, while the H6 HEV produces 240 HP and 530 Nm of torque.

Both cars have international 5-star safety ratings thanks to their tons of safety features covering:

  • ABS+EBD
  • ESC
  • HHC+HDA
  • TCS
