BYD, also known as Tesla Killer, is a Chinese all-electric EV car manufacturer. It was founded in 1995 as a battery manufacturer and showed off its first electric car model in 2007 during an auto show. At that time, the analysts and the world didn’t take it seriously.

“Nobody is laughing at BYD now.” – NewYork Times

CNBC reports, “BYD beats Tesla for a second straight year after producing more than 3 million cars in 2023,” and CNN reports, “BYD overtook Tesla as the world’s top seller of electric vehicles (EV) at the end of last year, crowning an extraordinary rise for the Chinese carmaker.”

Today, it’s the world’s biggest producer and exporter of electric cars. It exports electric taxis, public transportation, and passenger cars all over the world, including South America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Unlike Tesla, BYD also makes plug-in hybrids, but their EVs are the main product of focus.

Pakistan is about to experience the Chinese version of Tesla as Mega Conglomerate Pvt. Ltd. (Mega) is officially bringing the BYD to Pakistan.

Expected Models that BYD May Bring to Pakistan (Tentative)

We don’t know when they are going to start their operations in Pakistan from the officials, But from our experts and research, we are guessing which models the company may launch in Pakistan, at least tentatively. And we’re here to share this important information with you. Here are the expected models that BYD may bring to Pakistan:

BYD Dolphin

BYD DolphinBYD Dolphin is an all-electric hatchback with some really solid goodies. We don’t know what it will cost in Pakistan, but worldwide, it’s considered an affordable EV hatchback. The complete exterior and interior follows a very unique ‘Ocean Aesthetics’ design concept.

In UK variants, BYD provides 44.9kWh and 60.4kWh battery packs that provide 426 Km or 339/310 Km on the lower one. The power production is 201 HP and 310 Nm of torque on the upper trim, 93 HP and 180 Nm torque on the lower trim, and 0-100 Km/h in 7 seconds only (upper trim).

The new Dolphin EV goes for a starting price of 99,800 yuan ($13,865) in China.

BYD Atto 3

Atto 3

Atto 3 is another BYD’s C-segment crossover SUV and their first car on the newest platform that can take FWD, RWD, and AWD with 400V or 800V. According to international reviewers, it’s the best value-for-money deal, with pleasing high-tech features, a nicely detailed interior, a uniquely styled exterior, and a pleasing-to-drive experience. The base variant comes with an FWD train and 60kWh battery pack that produces juice of 201 HP and 310 Nm of torque.

Atto 3 in international markets starts at 119,800 yuan ($16,644)

BYD Seal

byd sealWith 0-100 in just 3.8 seconds, one thing we know for sure: if it makes it to Pakistan, it’ll be one of the fastest sedans in the market. International reviewers place it against the BMW i4, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai iONIQ 6, and E-tron GT. History proves that China has checkmated many German, Korean, and Japanese brands in terms of quality, offering value, pricing, and sales figures. The Seal also appears poised to repeat that history.

We must adore the Seal’s X design language. It’s unique, and you’ve never seen it before in any brand. It’s also an iF Design Award winner. If we talk about the tech goodies it brings, just believe us—it has all the high-tech modern features that any luxury German or JDM brings on the plate.

In the international market, it comes in both RWD and AWD  trims, both using the same 82.5kWh battery. The RWD is $57k and offers a 570 Km WLTP range with a 308bhp peak for 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds. $3.7k more will get you a dual motor, AWD version, power peaks at 523 BHP, and its range figure 519 km and 0-100 Km sprint in 3.8s.

BYD Tang 7

tang 7Tang 7 is the 7-seater all-electric MPV camper with a range that will rival some of the best in the business. In international markets, Tang EV comes in three trims: a 600 km range model that costs $34,000, a 730 km range trim for $37,000, and a 635 km 4×4 trim for $41,000.

From what we think, the Pakistani market leans more towards a car that is more practical and affordable to buy than a luxury sedan with a high budget, and that’s where Tang 7 might take the edge. It’s a 4WD with good ground clearance, generous headroom + legroom, and seven people can easily fit inside the car, making it the most practical choice for a family in Pakistan. The pricing also falls in the mid-range segment of the BYD’s lineup.

But it’s just our perspective and opinion only, based on what the international variant brings to the plate and Pakistani market trends. We will share official information with you as soon as BYD or its local partner, Mega Conglomerate share with us. Replying an email by PakWheels.com about the potential launches in the country, Mega stated: “We will share information publicly as well as put you in touch with the relevant people in due course.”

So, we will wait for the official update and hope BYD will make a huge splash in the local market.
