Welcome to our 2023 recap series, where we put together all the highlights of 2023 in the local and international automotive industry. This blog has a list of all the times bike prices changed in Pakistan in 2023. 

January Bike Prices

Suzuki kick-started the price hike trend on Jan 26, 2023. The year kicked off with a jolt as Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) increased its bike prices. The move, following local car assemblers, affected models like Suzuki GD 110S, GS 150, GSX 125, and GR 150. With increases ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000, Suzuki bikes became less affordable for the middle class.

On Jan 31, 2023, Road Prince and Honda joined the bandwagon. As January bid farewell, Road Prince and Honda followed suit. Road Prince increased its prices by up to Rs. 62,000, impacting various models. Honda’s range, from CD 70 to CB 150F SE, saw price hikes between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 30,000.

February Price Hikes

On Feb 16, 2023, United Auto Industries took the leap of price hikes. United Auto Industries joined the price hike parade, attributing it to the recently imposed General Sales Tax (GST) and increased raw material rates. Models like United US 70, US 100, and US Scooty 100 faced increases ranging from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 11,000.

On Feb 21, 2023, Yamaha made the first move of the year in the price hike trend. Yamaha entered the scene with its initial hike, citing the 18% GST as a probable cause. Yamaha YB125Z, YBR 125, and other models experienced increases between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 3,500.

On Mar 3, 2023, amidst a Rupee slump, Atlas Honda announced another round of price increases. Models like the Honda CD 70, CD 70 Dream, and CB 150F faced hikes ranging from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 25,000.

On Mar 31, 2023, Yamaha made a record jump in price hikes. Yamaha set a record for the highest jump, with increases up to Rs. 38,500. Bikes like YB125Z and YBR125G saw significant spikes.

April & May Bike Prices

On Apr 6, 2023, United and Suzuki followed the price hike trend. United Auto Industries increased its prices by up to Rs. 5,000, aligning with the economic situation. Suzuki joined the wave, upping GD 110S and GS 150 prices by up to Rs. 20,000.

april bike priceLater, on May 3, 2023, Yamaha and Honda continued the saga. Both companies were at it again, with increases up to Rs. 29,000 and Rs. 15,000, respectively. Economic factors and inflation were cited as reasons.

Then, on May 8, 2023, United Auto Industries went for round two. United Auto Industries implemented another price hike, mentioning the economic situation and inflation. Models like United US 70 and US 100 witnessed increases.

Second Half of 2023

On July 4, 2023, right after Eid, Yamaha delivered another shocker, with prices surging between Rs. 15,500 and Rs. 29,000. Economic reasons were assumed.

On Aug 5, 2023, Honda adjusted its price tags. Honda revised its bike prices, with increments ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 20,000. Atlas Honda aimed to weather economic crises while maintaining inventory.

aug 2023 bikes pricesOn Sep 6, 2023, Yamaha joined the hike parade once again! Yamaha implemented another hike, citing issues in imports, raw material unavailability, and rupee devaluation. Prices saw increases between Rs. 15,500 and Rs. 29,000.

On Oct 3, 2023, Suzuki came down with a double hit, with GD 110S and GS 150 prices increasing by up to Rs. 18,000. The second hike within a month sparked concerns about affordability.

On Dec 6th, 2023, Yamaha announced the final price hike of the year, specifically the YBR 125 G variants. The old price stood at 453,000 PKR for the YBR 125G Red/Black variant, and the new prices reflect an increase to 471,000 PKR for the Red/Black variant. For the Matt Grey/Orange variant, the old price was Rs. 456,000, and the new price is Rs. 474,000. This adjustment marked a notable difference of 18,000 PKR for both versions. 

In a year marked by economic uncertainties, inflation, and currency devaluation, Pakistan’s bike industry embarked on a rollercoaster journey with frequent and substantial price hikes. As we reflect on 2023, the impact of these fluctuations on the affordability and accessibility of motorcycles in Pakistan remains a pressing concern.
