Did Toyota Just Reveal the 2024 Toyota Tacoma?

1 2,204

Toyota has recently released a cryptic teaser on its official Instagram account, hinting at the upcoming launch of a new truck in the U.S. Though not much can be inferred from the teaser, it does confirm that the vehicle is indeed a truck, and rumors suggest that it could be the new Tacoma.

The current version of the Toyota Tacoma has been in the market since 2015 and is due for a significant overhaul. Patent drawings filed in Brazil have already given us a glimpse of the upcoming design, revealing that the new Tacoma will draw inspiration from the bigger Tundra that hit the market in 2022.

The patent drawings show that the new Tacoma will feature a similarly squared nose and small slats beneath the headlights. The grille shape is more enclosed than the one on the Tundra, but it still maintains the same rugged look. Additionally, both pickups will have fog lights integrated into the bumper, but the Tacoma features triangular air inlets on its fender flares that the Tundra does not have.

According to rumors, the new Tacoma will have the same TNGA-F platform as the Tundra and other big Toyota vehicles. This platform will help Tacoma retain its body-on-frame construction, and it is speculated that it will be available with a hybrid-assisted 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This engine is currently used in the Lexus RX 500h and Toyota Crown, where it can produce up to 366 hp (371 PS).

This is a significant improvement over the current Tacoma’s powertrain, which features a naturally aspirated 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with only 159 hp (161 PS) and a 3.5-liter V6 with 278 hp (282 PS), both without turbo. The new powertrain is expected to provide better performance and fuel efficiency. It is also rumored that Toyota will offer a stack of TRD tuning goodies to personalize the trucks.

In conclusion, Toyota’s new Tacoma promises to be a game-changer in the mid-size truck segment. With its revamped design and improved powertrain, it is sure to attract truck enthusiasts who are looking for a durable and reliable vehicle. While we eagerly await the official launch of the new Tacoma, we can only speculate on what else Toyota has in store for us.
