While Dubai is known for its modern infrastructure and vast roads and highways, it is also strict on traffic laws and regulations to maintain the order and safety of the state. For a safe ride, motorists should follow the traffic rules enforced by Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority RTA.

Thus, to avoid hefty fines and vehicle confiscation, knowing some of the important traffic rules and black points systems is crucial for a safe driving experience. This article will highlight the most imperative traffic rules that are unavoidable and result in fines.

So, let’s first understand the black points system leading to traffic fines.

What is the Black Points System

Dubai police introduced a black points system that you may not know. The black points system founded by RTA is a system that allows police to keep a record of a driver’s violations. With each violation, Dubai police add black points to the driver’s license depending on the nature of the offense. And if a driver crosses more than 24 points, his license may get suspended, and the vehicle gets confiscated for up to a year.

Dubai Fines that are Unavoidable

Along with black points, fines also depend on the offense’s severity. Here is a list of fines and black points categorized by the type of violations.

Over Speeding Fines

Over speeding is one of the apparent violations that can be avoided by knowing the specified speed limits. Also, the speed limits vary in Dubai depending on the type of road, and so do their fines.

Speed Limit km/h Black Points Fine Vehicle Confiscation
Over 80 23 226,663.17 Rs 60 days
Over 60 12 226,663.17 Rs 30 days
Less than 60 6 113,331.59 Rs 15 days

Driving Under the Influence

Driving while under the influence of drugs and alcohol is a serious offense and illegal globally. The fine for such an offense in Dubai is a hefty cost of 1,511,087.81 Rs, and the court decides the confiscation period of the vehicle. To avoid unnecessary accidents, you must prevent this violation, or else you will face severe consequences.

Mobile Phone Violation

It is strictly banned to use mobile phones behind the wheel. Due to excessive mobile usage, there have been an increasing number of accidents in recent years. The penalty for this violation is 60,443.51 Rs with four black points. To avoid fines, try to use hands-free sets and contribute to the safety of Dubai residents.

Driving Without Driving Silence

To avoid a fine, you must have a valid driving license or be fined 377,771.95 Rs with four black points. Also, make sure  your vehicle is registered so that you are not fined 37,777.20 RS and get five black points on your license.

Red Light Violation

One of the most common offenses is running a red light. Offenders in a hurry cause major accidents and risk the lives of other drivers. For this violation, Dubai police fines 60,443.51 Rs and adds eight black points to your driving record. Causing multiple offenses may lead to extreme measures to punish the offender.

Driving Without Wearing Seatbelts

Wearing a seatbelt is crucial in avoiding severe injuries caused by accidents. Therefore,  wear a seatbelt before driving and also ensure that the passengers are buckled up. Not wearing a seatbelt may result in a 30,221.76 Rs fine with four black points on your record.

Conclusion

Complying with traffic rules and regulations is stringent for every citizen of Dubai to maintain safety and order. The Dubai police issue the fines to ensure that offenders do not repeat violations and to ensure they drive safely. By following these rules, you not only protect yourself from penalties and road accidents but also contribute to the well-being of Dubai residents.
