Everyone knows Tesla as the king of electric cars. But Tesla needs to guard its throne because there’s a new EV brand in town. KIA EV6 has broken Tesla’s record by crossing the US with the shortest charging time.

New Record of KIA EV6

KIA’s brand-new midsize electric crossover is ready to hit the US showrooms early next year and has already managed to beat Tesla. KIA EV6 drove across the country, travelling 4635.7 km from New York to Los Angeles in seven days with a charging time of 7 hours and 10 minutes

Previous Record of Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S held the world record for covering the same distance with a charging time of 12 hours, 48 minutes and 19 seconds. That means KIA EV6 beat Tesla Model S by almost 5.5 hours.

KIA is coming after Tesla!

Tesla has been the showstopper of EVs for the longest time. As the EV revolution is taking over the world, more companies are entering the race. And KIA’s first racehorse has set the bar pretty high.

Here’s what the KIA’s Vice President Marketing, Russell Wager, said on the big achievement.

“The EV6’s record-setting run is the latest signal that Kia will be a leader in the popularization of EVs. All of Kia’s world-class engineering and experience in EVs will be applied in the move to electrification. The same attention to detail, design, quality, technology, and driving dynamics that Kia has become known for will be found in every new electric vehicle we bring to market.”

KIA wants to be the number one EV brand in the world, period. The EV6 is the first model under KIA’s Plan S strategy that the company has developed to become a leader in the EV market. That means the show has just started. More and better KIA EVs are coming to face off against Tesla.
