The 356-line of cars manufactured by Porsche are a significant part of the company’s rich history. Porsche shows its appreciation towards the building steps of the great automaker giant by recreating a replica of the original 356 prototype. This prototype is an exact copy of the 356 sportscar which once was an icon in the industry of automobiles.

The company started by creating a 3D scan of the 1948’s 356 prototype. The math experts then took over to compare the model with the original drawings of the car and its photos to figure out the exact size and shape of the historic prototype. The engineers then rendered the 3D model into a full-sized foam as a reference model before starting to build the exact replica of the first Porsche 356 car to ever be made. The team wanted to make this model as accurate as possible, which is why the engineers confirmed from original wood templates of the car and also figured out the actual color of the first prototype by comparing a sample from the original body.

The replica 356 model was fitted with an accurate interior and a steering gear taken from a Beetle, although the replica was never meant to move an inch on its own power. In actual, this replica is meant to demonstrate the looks of the first 356 car that was built as a prototype in 1948.

The original model does exist and is currently intact, but Porsche has been reluctant to take that car out in the open as there are a lot of risks that could permanently change stuff about the car that Porsche doesn’t want to be changed. Since the original 356 prototype is such a significant part of the company’s history, Porsche is willing to conserve it to such an extent that it created an exact replica of the car for the world to see.

One thing you can be sure about is that Porsche has done a great job at replicating the car because the replica looks very close to the original prototype when you compare both of them through photos – conveniently published by Porsche itself. The original car may not be meant for the world to see, but the replica will be touring to different events. The car will reportedly be showcased at the Luxury and Supercar Weekend in Vancouver, Canada, which starts on 8th of September, and at the Rennsport Reunion about to be held at Laguna Seca, starting on 27th of September.
