As we reported earlier, Proton Pakistan has announced new prices for its cars, X70 and Saga. A couple of weeks ago, the company removed the price tags of both of its models from its website. According to the sources, the company was waiting for new CKD kits from Malaysia, and after their arrival, the new prices will be announced. And today is that day. It is pertinent to mention that it is the company’s first price revision after August 2022, when it decreased its prices. It means new rates are announced after a year, during which most car assemblers repeatedly increase prices.

The x70, oshan x7, haval h6, Glory 580 pro, chery Tiggo 8 pro, hell even the Honda Accord! I’m surprised why anyone would skip all these great options and buy a small compact civic for over a caror rupees. 😂
Heck! I thinks it’s even better to pay the little bit extra and buy one of these options than the 10 year old corolla…

Corolla and Civic are sedans from Japanese brands, whereas Oshan, Tiggo, Glory are CUVs from Chinese brands. Simply put a sedan is more comfortable and even costs low to maintain as compared to a CUV and therefore the two vehicles are not comparable at all. By the way, a Japanese vehicle has a far longer life than a glittery box on wheels made in China. However, I guess, have you a sense to feel or even see a difference then you must not have spoken at all.
P.S. The Corolla is available as a zero-meter vehicle Mr. Ali Khan, or at-least that is what a normal eye is seeing.

“Corolla and Civic are sedans from Japanese brands, whereas Oshan, Tiggo, Glory are CUVs from Chinese brands”. So what?… 🤷‍♂️ There are American, European and Korean brands etc. out there too.
Chinese brands such as Geely, Chery, Changan, MG, Haval etc. are all very popular in countries like Philippines and Australia. The MG 3 has been one of the most popular small hatchbacks in Australia for a few years now. The MG HS is quite popular there as well as Haval H6 etc. The MG ZS has been a very successful CUV in the UK. The MG 5 estate EV is the considered the best EV estates in the UK. The MG ZS EV, the MG4/MG Mulan and the BYD Atto 3 are very popular small EVs in the UK and Australia.
In Saudi Arabia, the Chery Tiggo 8 pro won the “SUV with the best advanced Technology” award within a year of its launch. A big deal in a land dominated by American and Japanese brands. In the middle east, the Chinese brand cars and SUVs are fast becoming very popular with their good quality, reliability, better tech and cheaper parts compared to Japanese or American or European brands. People and businesses are fast adopting them. The Chinese brands are spreading very fast across the region. You know about all this already Khurram. You have read about it. I know you have. We have had our discussions there as well.
“The Corolla is available as a zero-meter vehicle”… 🤦‍♂️ So your criteria are that it should smell like new. No never mind to whether what they are selling you is ten years old or forty or if it devoid of all modern tech and safety options or they are very overpriced small compact sedans?
But Chalo, maan liya. You don’t like Chinese brands. Your prerogative. what about the other Japanese options and even Korean ones? I mentioned the Honda Accord. that is a very good midsized sedan option. You can get it as an import or you can get the local CBU Import. Even used, that is a better option. If you want Zero meter, What about the Hyundai Sonata in almost the same price? Or if you would like a good cheap(er) small compact sedan just like the corolla or the Civic; What about the Elantra? New, it’s cheaper than the Corolla and has better tech. However, the reason I have an issue with it is because it is an older generation; But it is still newer than the corolla and a good option. And you can’t claim that they are bad. In advanced and truly open markets like the US, this year, Toyota (U.S. being one of their biggest markets) dropped around 10% in sales year over year. Honda dropped around 38%. On the other hand, Hyundai and Kia picked up in sales well over 20%.
Maybe the other reason is that Chinese and the Korean brands are coming up with great EV options as well. Meanwhile the Japanese have buried their heads in the sand ignoring it all. So much so that Toyota’s first SUV EV offering had very bad tech and its wheels kept falling off and now they have asked BYD in China to make the “EV corolla” for them in China. All they do is slap their badge on it. No wonder its sales are tanking. People much rather buy the original BYD.

“Times, Things; they are a changing” Khurram. Don’t pretend like you don’t know it.
