Punjab officials have some exciting news for students: electric bikes are on their way! Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given the green light for this bike scheme initiative, which aims to make transportation easier for students across the province.

At a recent meeting in Lahore, the provincial administration laid out a plan to provide over 20,000 electric and petrol motorbikes to citizens, especially students, through interest-free loans. Even former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was present at the meeting, showing the significance of this initiative.

The main focus of the discussion was on improving transportation for students. Apart from electric bikes, hybrid bus services for students were also on the agenda.

Installment Details & Plan

Total Bikes: The government plans to distribute a total of 20,000 bikes, out of which 1,000 will be electric bikes and 19,000 will be petrol bikes. And guess what? Students won’t have to worry about paying any interest on their monthly installments.

Installment Plan: To make it easier for students, the Punjab government has teamed up with the Bank of Punjab (BOP) for bike distribution. The monthly installment for electric bikes is set at Rs. 10,000, while for petrol bikes, it’s Rs. 5,000.

Delivery: Transparency is key, so the government has decided to hold a draw in May to ensure fairness in the distribution process.

Quota: To ensure equal opportunity, quotas have been set. In urban areas, the bikes will be evenly split between male and female students. However, in rural areas, there’s a bit of difference with 70% of the quota reserved for male students and 30% for female students.

This initiative by the Punjab government, led by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), aims to ease the burden of transportation for students, making it more accessible and affordable. With electric bikes hitting the roads soon, students can look forward to a smoother ride to their educational institutions.
