It seems that one of the biggest traffic problems in Lahore’s surroundings is going to be resolved at last, and the commuters can have smooth sailing from the Shahdara Chowk. The crossing is famous for long traffic jams and congestion. The Punjab government has finally started the construction of the much-awaited Shahdara flyover as Lahore City Traffic Police issued a traffic plan for the masses.
Traffic Plan for Shahdara Flyover Construction
According to the police, Shahdara Chowk will be closed for traffic from February 18, 2023, due to the construction of the flyover. “A plan has been finalized to ensure smooth traffic flow, and we request the citizens to travel as per this plan and cooperate with the wardens,” the police tweeted.
The police have appointed extra wardens on alternative routes in three shifts. These are three alternate routes for commuters:
- Heavy and slow-moving commercial vehicles coming from Kala Shah Kaku and Kala Khatai can enter Lahore via Eastern Bypass/Motorway.
- Traffic coming from Faisalabad and Sheikhupura can enter Lahore via Saggian.
- During construction, there will be a diversion for all heavy vehicles coming from Begum Kot Chowk and Kala Shah Kaku.

All people who travel on this route must follow this plan to avoid traffic jams and other issues. Completing this flyover will resolve a huge problem, especially for the people of Shahdara, who must cross the chowk daily. The project will also help reduce the air and noise pollution caused due to these jams.
The other major road projects in Lahore at the time are at Kalma Chowk and on Ferozepur Road opposite Arfa Karim Tower. The authorities have vowed to complete these projects as soon as possible for the convenience of the masses.
