Summers are almost here, and it is going to get hot. The temperature in most cities of Pakistan goes 40 degrees and above. While everyone turns on the car AC for a comfortable ride, many forget to check up on the health of tyres. Maintaining the tyres of your vehicle is crucial at any time of the year, especially in Summers. The roads are piping hot, and the only thing between your car and road are the wheels. The heat weakens the rubber of your wheels, which may cause a blowout. You don’t want that, do you? Here are some Summer tyre care tips to avoid such misfortunes.

  • Keep the tyre pressure in check

High temperatures directly affect the air inside the tyres. When the outside temperature rises, the air inside the tyres expands, and the tyre pressure increases. An over-inflated tyre causes excessive wear and tear to the center of the tread, which can in turn cause the tyre to burst.

Make sure to check the tyre pressure every few weeks and before long journeys. Inflate the tyres to the recommended settings found on your vehicle owner’s manual. It’s best to check the pressure when the tyres are cold or have not travelled for more than 3 hours.

  • Look out for cracks/punctures

Over-inflated tyres are likely to have cracks and uneven areas. So, it’s a good idea to inspect the tyres from time to time for any bulges, cuts, and punctures. Start by having a look at the tread depth by inserting a coin between the treads. If one-fourth of the coin is not between treads, it’s time to replace the tyres.

  • Avoid overloading the car

Avoid travelling with a full-house of passengers in Summers and carrying loads of cargo. Not only does it get uncomfortable to travel, but it also adds to the heat build-up, putting extra pressure on the tyres. Tyre damages and tyre blowouts, results can be dangerous.

  • Keep a spare tyre with you

Keeping a spare tyre in your car is a no-brainer. But doing it in Summers is especially important. As the Summer heat increases the chances of flat tyres and blowouts, you will be safer with a spare tyre. Just like the running wheels of your car, don’t forget to check the pressure and inflate your spare tyre.

  • Take breaks during long travels

Another tip to beat the heat of Summer travels is to take short breaks in between long haul trips. This will allow the tyres and other car parts to cool down and relax the driver. Your long trip will be a lot more fun!
