Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently launched an initiative called “Golden Chance,” allowing expats from non-approved countries such as Pakistan, India, and the Philippines to swap their driving licenses without the need for driving lessons. The move of introducing this golden chance aims to simplify the process for these expats to get a local driving license by only requiring them to take theory and road tests.
Meanwhile, the approved countries can exchange their licenses by visiting RTA. These countries include the US, UK, Canada, South Africa, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, and Ireland. However, expats from Lithuania and Greece must give up their foreign licenses to get the Dubai one.
For those who are over 18 years old and cannot drive, they can take driving lessons at any of the following institutes in Dubai:
Emirates Driving Institute
Dubai Driving Center
Galadari Motor Driving Center
Belhasa Driving Center
Al Ahli Driving Center.

Furthermore, the RTA has recently opened a new cyclists’ tunnel in the Al Meydan area of Dubai, with a capacity of 800 bikes per hour. The tunnel is part of RTA’s efforts to make Dubai a bicycle-friendly city, providing cyclists with an uninterrupted path for their ride without worrying about collisions with other cars. The tunnel spans over 160 meters in length and 6.6 meters in width, giving cyclists a safe and convenient way to exercise while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Dubai.
