With an aim to uplift the comfort for the citizens in an intra-city commute , the provincial interim government is embarked on inaugurating the projects as soon as possible. After opening the Cavalry underpass and Shahdara flyover for the public traffic, Punjab’s caretaker government is all set to inaugurate another flyover in the city.

In a recent update, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) proudly announced that the flyover, spanning 1.1 km with two segments, is set to open for traffic later this week.

The details

The construction of the Akbar Chowk flyover in Lahore has been successfully completed, marking a major stride in the city’s infrastructure enhancement.

The culmination of this project was celebrated with a visit from Punjab’s Minister for Housing, who, alongside DG LDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa, inspected the newly finished flyover. One notable highlight is the commitment to environmental preservation, as the LDA emphasized that not a single tree was felled during the construction process.

Earlier, in a statement, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) stated that the Cavalry underpass was completed in an “impressive 2.5 months instead of 6 months, and now opened for traffic by Caretaker CM Punjab Mohsin Naqvi.”

The authority further wrote that it would provide a seamless, signal-free corridor from Center Point to Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

Other Projects

Along with this underpass, the work on Ghora Chowk Flyover and Walton Road is underway, and as per the government, they will be completed and opened on the following dates:

  • Walton Road: Ready to roll by 31st January 2024.
  • CBD Main Boulevard unveiling on 31st December 2023.
  • Ghora Chowk Flyover is set to be opened to the public by 7th December 2023.

The construction work on these projects was started in September 2023 to ensure smooth traffic in that area. These areas, especially Cavalry Ground Chowk, faced massive traffic jams during rush hours, and there used to be long lines of vehicles at that signal.
