India received the all-new 2024 4th generation Suzuki Swift on May 10, 2024, one year after it was revealed at the Japan Mobility Show. Its base price in India starts at 2.1 million PKR. On the other hand, Pakistan has still not received the fourth-generation Swift, and Pak Suzuki is still offering the third generation with no signs of the fourth generation.

Here’s a comparison of the differences between the 3rd and 4th generation Swift so you’ll know what goodies the 3rd generation lacks compared to the 4th, especially in terms of design, technology, and safety upgrades.

Exterior changes in 4th Generation Swift

Thankfully, Suzuki played safe, didn’t experiment with new designs, and kept the main design language the same. From what we can tell, the front grille is different. While the 3rd generation has a chrome accent with Suzuki’s S logo, the new Swift has a piano black mesh grille, and the S logo is shifted above the grille.

The new headlights are also subtle, with an L-shape DRL and all black from the inside. The foglamp design has also been changed to smaller in size; inside, the LED is the same.

The bonnet’s shape has also changed; while the 3rd generation was square, the 4th generation is now a curved oval shape.

The 4th generation is also longer, but the width and wheelbase are the same as the third generation.

Moving to the back, besides the headlights and bumper design, nothing much has changed. The backlight has more black accents, and the bumper has curves, unlike the third generation, which has a smooth bumper.

Interior

On the interior, besides rear AC vents and wireless charging, there’s no feature add-on; it’s just design changes. This time, the center AC grills are rectangular with a floating display and some design changes in the speedometer.

Honestly, we personally like the interior of 3rd generation; the meter design, round AC grills, and round AC knobs, as well as the dashboard design, look better in the 3rd generation. The 4th generation’s interior looks pretty vague and not distinctive; it was just our personal opinion only!

Engine and Performance

Next-gen Maruti Swift to debut new Z series 1.2-litre petrol engine - CarWale

The 4th generation Swift has Suzuki’s latest 1.2L Z series engine, which produces 80 BHP and 111 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed AT transmission. Surprisingly, its fuel average is mind-blowing: about 25 Km/l, but that’s CNG, as India still uses CNG in cars.

However, the third generation is not a bad deal either. It uses a 1.2L K12M engine that produces 81 BHP and 113 Nm of torque, matted with a CVT transmission (the base variant is manual), and a fuel average of 12-14 Km/l (petrol) in the city.

Safety

Features-wise, both variants are the same, and there’s no change. Both cars have six airbags, an immobilizer, and cruise control HHA, ABS, VSA, and EBD with ISOFIX.

Pakwheels Opinion

In our opinion, 3rd generation does make sense, and we can’t say that it’s a very old-school car. Besides the bonnet, headlights, and taillights design, there’s no significant feature add-on in the 4th generation Swift.

On the internal side, rear AC grills and wireless charging have been added. Besides that, there are no practical feature additions in the interior, just some dashboard and AC grill design changes that make no practical difference.

However, the engine technology is better, but again, our 3rd generation has CVT, and the 4th generation Indian Swift has downgraded AT transmission.

So, in our opinion, Pakistani 3rd Swift does make sense!
