Pak Suzuki, in not a much surprising move, has discontinued its bike, Suzuki GS 150 SE (Special Edition). In a notification, the company said that the bike will be discontinued from July 16, 2022. “No further orders will be accepted,” the company said.
However, the company clarified that the GS 150 (standard version) will continue to be produced and sold. It is pertinent to mention that rumors about this discontinuation were in the market for last few weeks. As per reports, there are different possible reasons behind this.
Possible Reasons
The first possible reason is the serious issues in importing the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is not issuing the LCs for the import of CKD kits, resulting in delays in production and delivery. Furthermore, the high freight charges, increasing petrol price and depreciation of rupee against the US dollar are other probable reasons.
Meanwhile, the sales of Suzuki GS 150SE are not that high and the situation of Special Edition was even worse. And this could be second major reason behind this decision. Also, GS 150 has been discontinued internationally for almost 7-8 years, meaning the bike is living extra life in Pakistan. And last but least, the current price of the GS 150 bike is Rs. 232,000, while the rate of Special Edition was Rs. 249,000, which are quite high especially in this time of high inflation.
Suzuki Sales
As per PAMA report, the company has sold 3,268 bikes in June 2022, compared to 3,580 units in May 2022, meaning the company saw an increase on overall sales. And still it had to shutdown its operations for Special Edition.

If its a typo that change it otherwise how could selling 3580 unit in May 2022 is less then selling 3268 unit in June 2022?
