Honda Civic 2016 Comes To Asia – Booking Starts In Philippines, Specs Confirmed
We here in Pakistan are anxiously waiting for the new 2016 Honda Civic. It was launched in North America market last year and has already been put on sale in the United States and Canada. One of our regular bloggers, Fazal Wahab, went to test drive one as well. Now according to the latest reports, the new Honda Civic 2016 has found its way to Asia. And the Philippines is the first Asian country where the car has been put up for the launch. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. is gearing up for the 10th generation Civic and all authorized Honda dealerships throughout the Philippines have started to take reservations.

The ASEAN-spec Civic will be launched with a turbocharged 1.5-liter and a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine. It is most probably the same 1.8L engine that we get in our 9th generation Civic here in Pakistan. So the initial suspicion that the new Civic in Pakistan will also be launched with the same 1.8L motor now has more substance to it since our cars share a lot with ASEAN-spec cars. The new Civic in American market comes with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine producing 174 bhp and a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine producing a little over 150 bhp.
The two variants that will be put up for sale in the Philippines are RS Turbo, and 1.8 E. The 1.5-liter turbocharged unit in the ASEAN-spec Civic is reported to produce 174 bhp and 220 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 5,000 rpm. There are no updates on the power ratings of the 1.8L NA engine, but if it’s the same R18 motor, you can expect it to make the same or a bit over its current 141 bhp mark. As for transmission is concerned, the car will be offered with either a CVT or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Honda Philippines will be offering the turbocharged Civic with their Road Sailing body kit (hence the RS Civic) in order to make the car look more aggressive and streamlined.
The 2016 Honda Civic will be available in following colors:
- Cosmic Blue Metallic
- Midnight Burgundy Pearl
- Lunar Silver Metallic
- White Orchid Pearl
- Modern Steel Metallic
- Rallye Red
It is going to be the first Civic in Asia, and now all eyes are on Honda Atlas. Honda fans and auto enthusiasts, in general, are excited to see what Honda Pakistan has to offer. As much as we are waiting for the new Civic, many are waiting to know what sort of engine options Honda Atlas will offer. We will have to see if Pakistani auto consumers will get either NA or turbo engines, or both? And whether the NA is going to be the same current 1.8L unit or an entirely new engine.
Atlas Honda would get a huge advantage in sales over Indus Toyota Altis 1.6 & 1.8 , if they launch the 1.5L version in Pakistan
Dont expect any wonders from Atlas Honda. .they suck big time. I reckon theyl shut us with an R18 Cvti for now and that would be it folks.
But there’s a problem. The local mechanics are not aware of how to deal with turbo’s.
wish atlas introduce 1.5l civic too
Unlikely we get the Turbo for the moment…fuel is not good enough for a start (and HOBC is available only on a few pumps in major cities)
that, and most importantly fuel grade. Turbo’s lose a lot of their output on lower fuel grades. I have the Mustang 2.3, the output drops from 315 to 275 going from 93/91 to 87. So I would imagine at least a 10-15% drop for the civic as well, in which case the naturally aspirated 1.8 becomes a better buy automatically. Plus, Karachi is mostly hot throughout the year. Turbo’s can overheat rather easily, specially in 36 C+ which we have about half the year.
Yup that’s a point. And also Lahore get even more hot during summer with temperature reaching 48-50°C
I will be more interested in the drive comfort and gadgets like electric seats etc.
Turbos are working just fine out in the desert.
Base Ignition timings in ECU maps can be retarded 5 degrees from their Japanese/US market vehicles, and it’ll run like a charm. Best of all, great fuel eco and the torque will still be there IF the timing maps are customised for this region’s fuel type (which is a piece of cake for the manufacturer -all it takes is an official request from honda atlas to its parent company).
When there is a will, ways will be sought – and found.
But Honda dealers wud be
When is Civic launching in Pakistan??? Any idea????
