Islamabad Traffic Police has launched an operation against unauthorized number plates and tinted glasses in the city. In a tweet, the police said the steps are also being taken against over-speeding and other traffic violations. “No violation will be left unchecked,” said SSP Traffic Farrukh Rashid.

Under the operation, the police can be seen removing the fancy number plates from different cars. The police have asked the car owners to get proper authorized number plates. It is pertinent to mention that the authorized number plates are essential for keeping the car’s record. Such operations help the police in maintaining the record and keeping these vehicles in check.

In March this year, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) also launched a driving license with a chip in it. It means you cannot hide or run from the authorities after any traffic violation. Talking to the media, Islamabad Police IG Qazi Jamilur Rehman said, the force took the steps to curb over-speeding and road accidents.

The IG further said that police have also launched a penalty-point system. “Each driving license holder will have 10 points, and their deduction will start over various traffic violations,” he said. The official also said that if a driver loses 10 points, his license would be suspended.

The IG believes that surveillance cameras and chip-based licenses will help in implementing a tech-based penalty system. “The police are using modern technology to control the traffic in the capital,” he added.

Online Appointment for Driving License:

He also told media that police have launched an online appointment system for people seeking a driving license. “We introduced this system so that the candidates would not have to wait in long queues,” he said. Discussing the performance, he told media that police issued 187,586 challans during the first three months of 2021.

Explaining the new patrolling plan, IG said that police are going to implement a new strategy. He said special teams would patrol the roads connecting highways and sectors. Furthermore, along with normal duties, petrol teams consisting of 211 officers with 52 motorcycles and 44 vehicles will work in two shifts.
