For the last two years, ride-hailing services like Careem and Uber have provided quite a convenient mode of traveling for the daily commuters. Careem, however, in this case, has been particularly successful throughout the country because of its availability.

At the start, the Careem started its service with “GO ride” only; later on, with the time and increasing market demand along with target commuters, Careem had also launched “GO Mini” which was without air conditioning and was less costly as compared to “GO ride.” Business, Business Plus, and even GO+ were introduced for executive purposes. However, this is not all; the journey of Careem is still going on as it has introduced cheaper ride Careem Bike for the students. This was indeed a game-changer for Creem, but there was still an issue that not all the females could avail this service due to the norms of society. Nevertheless, this didn’t stop Careem, and finally, it has decided to launch a “WoW Service For Female Bike Riders.”

Careem launches WoW Service For Female Bike Riders

This service would be primarily for the girls who were not able to enjoy cheap bike service because of male bike riders. This ride would also be helpful for the female bike riders to earn their own money. WOW known as “Women on Wheels” rides, are initially starting from the largest city of Pakistan, i.e. Karachi, and later on, this service would be available in other major cities.

General Manager Careem-South, Asad Haider while briefing about this initiative mentioned said that:

“Careem has always been upfront and hailing such initiatives that empower women in Pakistan. Hence, Careem is looking forward to expanding its female Captains base and also providing them a financial empowerment platform to women. So, we believe that the WOW vehicle category will not only be able to create job opportunities for women but  would also help break the stereotypes and help females enjoy the safe and affordable mode of transport.”

Indeed, this initiative is quite commendable, and we are anxiously waiting for this service to be available in other cities of Pakistan.

“…were not able to enjoy cheap bike service because of male bike riders.”

Why this accusatory tone? It may be understandable that female passengers may not want to sit in close-quarters with a male bike driver however the accusatory tone “because of male” adopted in this sentence expresses that there is some inherent problem associated with being male.

It is commonly seen that female passengers do not have any problem with male rickshaw drivers or male car drivers while sitting at a comfortable distance affording a personal space to “male driver” and a personal space for “female passenger” as well.

So much so with discussions about male toxicity – in this PC era what hell would break loose if above-quoted sentence was targeted towards females?
