Origin of General Tyres
The company was established in 1963 under the umbrella of General Tyres International Corporation of USA. The production commences with 120,000 units per annum. Due to its high quality, the company doubled its capacity within 9 years of its inception. In next major leap, the company became a part of Bibojee Services in 1977. Under this new venture, the company reached its highest achievement in 1985, when the president of Pakistan inaugurated its new production plant. This new plant boosted the production to 600,000 tyres per annum.
Next Major Milestones
In 1987, General Tyres was bought by Continental Group of Germany, the fourth biggest manufacturer of tyres in the world. The new group ensured strict German production standards. This new venture resulted in the booming success of the company at national and international markets when General Tyres became official suppliers of Pak Suzuki, Indus Motor Company (IMC) and Honda Motor Company (HMC).
The company also made Formula One Tyres from 1988 to 1998 and exported them to Italy and Sweden.
Top Certifications for General Tyres
In 2005, the company received the ISO 9001 Certificate, the highest certification in production standards. This gives a confidence boost to the company, and it shifted into the fast lane; before 2018, the company received ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Health & Safety Management) Certificates. In the same year, the company celebrated producing its 40th Million unit.
Current and Future Plans
Continuing the success journey, the company is now eyeing producing 4.1million tyres per annum. The company’s journey could not have been successful if it were not for its dealers and distributors.
After a journey of over five decades, it is time for the company to prove itself as a leader in technology and innovation. And under this new journey, the company is rebranded as GTR Tyre. With a new name and venture, the company vows to continue producing the best tyres for Pakistani roads.
