Alert O’ travelers of motorways, getting an M-Tag sticker for your vehicle is not free anymore. According to an NHMP official, the vehicle owners who want to have M-Tag will pay Rs. 200 for registration. “The fee is implemented from January 1st, 2022,” the official said, adding that FWO controls the monetary system on motorways, and the fee will go to the authority.

Explaining further, the official said that the individual must have at least Rs. 500 for new sticker. “Rs. 200 are for registration (as mentioned earlier) and Rs. 300 for balance,” the official told us.

Last month, the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) had made M-Tag essential to travel on motorways. According to a tweet by the police, “The sticker is now mandatory on motorways.” The authority further said that it was ready to implement Lahore High Court (LHC) orders with the cooperation of citizens. “As per a decision by LHC, only M-Tag travelers will be allowed on the motorways from December 7th, 2021,” the police added.

How to Get an M-Tag?

The process of getting an M-Tag for your car is relatively easy. You just have to visit the Toll Plaza booth on any motorway and visit the M-Tag issuance booth.

However, you must have your CNIC, COVID vaccination certificate, and Vehicle registration book with you. Without these documents, police will not issue the sticker for your vehicle.

The authorities implemented this policy to tackle the issue of traffic jams and blockades at motorway toll plazas. The stoppage caused time to waste and, more importantly, pollution. Henceforth, LHC asked the authorities to make M-Tag necessary for traveling. This has made traveling on motorways smoother as the drivers don’t have to wait in long lines at toll plazas.
