PAMA Report: Car Sales Drop by 8% last Month

The continuous production cuts and an incessant downtrend in demand has accelerated the slump in sales. Highlighting the month-on-month (MoM) sales charts, country’s half-beating economic pulse reflects a major effect shattering the fortunes.

Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) report disclosed that car sales drop by 8% in December 2022. The automaker sold 16,984 cars last month compared to 18,531 vehicles in November last year. Whilst year-on-year (YoY) sales declined by 38%, selling 84,088 cars in the first half of FY23 against 135,976 vehicles sold in corresponding period of 1HFY22.

Company-Wise Sales Breakdown 

The Japanese car giant in the country “Toyota Indus Motors” witnessed a slump of 13% in its sales. The company sold 2,823 units in December against 3,242 units in November. (MoM decline: 13%)

Highlighting Honda Atlas car sales, the company’s sales observed a slight jump – went up by 5%, selling 2,079 units in December compared to 1,973 units in November. (MoM growth: 5%)

Similarly, Pak Suzuki Motors Company (PSMC) followed the INDU footprints – sales decreased by 8%. Company sold 11,342 units last month contra 12,387 units in November. (MoM decline: 8%)

Leaping over all the Japanese peers, the new entrant, dubbed Hyundai Nishat faces the different fate. The company witnessed a massive uplift selling 603 units in Dec-22 compared to 441 units in Sept-22. (MoM growth: 37%)

It is pertinent to mention that all other car companies, Kia Lucky Motors, Master Changan Motors, Regal Motors, MG Motors, and Al-Haj Proton, are not PAMA members. Their sales numbers are not included in the report.

Car-Wise Sales Breakdown

Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company sold 6,898 units of Alto, 1,057 units of Suzuki Cultus, 872 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 1,428 units of Suzuki Swift, 464 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 623 units of Suzuki Ravi.

Toyota Indus sold 1,879 units of Corolla and Yaris and 944 units of Fortuner and Hilux.

Honda Atlas sold 981 units of Civic and City and 1,098 units of BR-V and HR-V.

Hyundai Nishat sold 142 units of Elantra, 47 units of Sonata, 61 units of Porter, and 353 units of Tucson.
