Overheating is undoubtedly the worst enemy of an engine, it causes considerable damage to the car’s engine. When the engine emits smoke from under the hood it means danger, pull your car at once and wait for the engine to cool down. Aside from the smoke from the engine, there are also other means to check whether the engine is overheating or nor such as engine warning lights and temperature gauge moving to the red zone.

Before digging deep into how to prevent the engine from overheating, it is to be noted here that every vehicle houses a cooling system that prevents the engine from overheating. In today’s vehicle due to more complex engines; liquid cooling systems become quite efficient but there still are some failure now and then.

Moving onwards, the engine oil also prevents engine to get hot and reach the point where it gets overheated. Engine oil prevents friction by lubricating the internal parts of the engine.

There are many reasons why engine overheats, for example, there might be a leaks or blockages in the cooling system. Furthermore, others reason could be water pump not working correctly or is broken down. Additionally, the coolant getting frozen in the radiator in winters causing potential damage to the radiator if you are not using antifreeze.

Now coming to the tips which will help you to prevent the engine of your vehicle to overheat.

  • First on the list is that get the cooling system checked for leaks. Go straight to the mechanic to repair the leaks of coolant system whenever they appear.
  • Secondly, get some quality antifreeze.
  • Thirdly you should always change the engine oil on time.

Moreover, always take note of the temperature gauge when the warning lights come on pull off the car and let the engine cool down if you neglect it, the damage to the engine could be massive.

Lastly, if there is a need to change the water pump, radiator and coolant hosepipes, change them immediately otherwise it will create great problem for the engine.
